Warren your rose is similar to one I picked up growing in front of one of my client's 1950's factories. Possibly a little more pink towards the centre but the fragrance is one to die for. Who bred it and what name I don't know. It has a study name "Lisa Treloar" as my daughter liked it so much. Growth is semi supple pillar type to 5'6". Could have two doses of Tea in it's heritage though the blooms are more high centered.
Would you like some budwood? Sorry I'm not into pix at this stage.

Warren, nice rose as always. The colour is what drew me to it. The pollen parent, 'Cressida' from DA has a lot of influence on it I think. Have you done any other work with it yet. I can see in my mind something like it in hybrid tea form, decent length stems, = wedding bouquets, florist rose, does it have sent Warren, if not, the rose you cross it with might need to bring perfume with it.

Dave when I first started breeding my direction was a rose with a big flowering head of blooms with a effortless and endless repeat cycle.
The bloom structure of these early roses was greatly varied as was the colours, but as I produced the F1 ---> F3 things changed, as they are easliy manipulated along with a sort of hybrid vigour. [b]Dame Élégant [b] has not been used yet in a breeding cycle, it does n't set hips so she is strictly a pollinator. I could see this going on Honor and creating something very good or an Austin type.

At the moment my quest in breeding is to create unique colours, last years seedlings were the start of this venture and the results were quite pleasing.

Warren, do you think it is the pollen or seed parent of Dame Élégant that is not letting it set hips. Will we ever see it released or maybe budwood of it.

Dave sometimes seedlings comming from both fertile parents can be quite difficult to breed from. This rose will be released when the Aussie growers pull their fingers out, there too concerned about the imports.

Warren, do the local importers contract to the big overseas breeders on the basis of takeing a certain number of new ones each year.
Would appear they can't afford both overseas and local. Perhaps it's time for someone to open a nursery based on all local species, hybrids and Australian bred plants.
People are very much into buy local these days. When I see our brand on tools and other engineering produced products I know it will last.
Hang in there, keep breeding and try to test your seedlings on the mid eastern coast like Coffs Harbour or Brisbane.

It's ok Bruce they can have an overnight stay in Mudgee before going north.

Bruce I know a few big growers are tied up with the big breeding houses of europe and the USA, on how much pull they actually have , I could n't tell you. There are a lot of people out there who would have Aussie bred roses in their gardens only if they access to them, and that is the problem. If I had the capital, I would nt hestitate opening an Ozzie rose only outlet, and then I would be cheeky enough to send them to where those imported roses come from.

Warren, I will suggest to my local nursery to have an Australian Bred Rose section. No doubt they will ask for details so will have to run this by the Australian Rose Breeders Assoc if my local nursery likes the concept.
Perhaps it's too early to approach them as a lot of trial work will need to be done. They need to grow as well as or better than the imports.
I'm really searching for benefits to negotiate with them and to find out their objections so as to come up with a plan.
Some of our locally bred roses are poor doers like Lubra and Waltzing Matilda, our plants have to be good..
Think about what roses you could make available. Also what return would be worthwhile. No doubt we would have to have a ticket printed and barcoaded for each plant.
Our proposition has to have benefits over the imports.

Just a few things to think about so will approach some of the biggies and guage their reaction. Call it a fact finding mission.
