Anyone growing White Ensign?

Anyone growing White Ensign?
Hi everyone
In June this year I planted 30 White Ensign roses 1m apart along the front fence of our house to create an informal hedge. Unfortunately 8 of them haven't taken even though the others are looking quite healthy. I'm feeling a bit disheartened with this and am wondering if I have made a poor choice. I can replace the ones that have died next year or I am contemplating changing the look so that there is one White Ensign, then one of a different colour, continuing this pattern the whole way along. If I was to do this I would choose a very soft pink, double rose of a similar height, probably a tea rose, though not sure which one.
Does anyone grow White Ensign and does it have any special requirements? If you think White Ensign is a poor choice can you suggest a pale pink that woul mix in nicely?
Thanks!
Fiona

Re: Anyone growing White Ensign?
That's disapppointing; White Ensign is a survivor rose, found in various old gardens. A lovely thing too. Maybe try a different supplier, or try it on its own roots. I could put a batch into doggybags for you if you like, although of course they'd take 2-3 years to catch up with what you already have.
The Teas can get very big, and I'm not sure alternating one with White Ensign would work.

Thanks, Margaret. I am having trouble finding another supplier for that particular rose. Not sure if I am allowed to mention the name of where I purchased on the forum so I won't just in case!
I have been looking through some catalogues just now and did think of David Austins Eglantyne to alternate. I'm just not sure whether alternating will spoil the look I am wanting to achieve. I fear that it will look like a candy cane if the pink turns out too bright!
Thanks for the offer of a doggybag. I will keep thinking on it and let you know what I decide. Back to the catalogues!

Re: Anyone growing White Ensign?
if you want minimalist pink there's Stanwell Perpetual, which fades to white fairly quickly. It hasn't grown big for me but it has that potential. The most exquisite rose, but prickly.
