Hi Meryl,
we bought it sometime in the early eighties and it lived in progressively larger pots as we searched for a block of land to build on. It's usually seen in garden centres with its arms lopped off and then it forms a more columnar tree. We decided to let this one go where it wanted after seeing a photo of one in France that had been allowed to just grow. It is a beautiful tree.
