'heather roses' 2010
I changed the topic for my this year roses, because I'm not shure that they will become winter hard.
The first 'AD' Seedling opens it's bud. The inner petals are much more orange coloured that the outer ones let me expect:

there is another one which is also very promising, seedling of 'rose de Resht' x 'Sympathy':

few with unspectecular blooms like this ( 'Bonica' x 'Loredo'):
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and some others from the last year, going to flower the first time like this one ('Sympathy' x 'Loredo'):

will keep you up to date ( if not becoming dormant again)
cheers

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
it was a short show and not what I had expected:
the next day it looked:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and one day later it has finished:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
may be due to the strong scent , it has only a short blooming period. The petal count was 12 but I'm sure, the next blooms will have more.
with fragrand regards

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
a seedling from 2009 (be sure it's winter hard!) is blooming the first time. The plant is about 1.8 m high, will train it as climber:
it is a grazy red and it seems that Kordes (or the breeders before) have used Gallica Versicolor in breeding
the white spot at the center leaf is not a reflection by the sun. Will see if it is stable, a little bit more of white stripes would be gr8.
cheers

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
I would recomment looking at some of the descendants of Mr Moore's 'Stars n Stripes' or 'Honorine de Brabant', Bemo, if you would like to introduce more stripping. There aren't many good striped climbers and this is a lovely rose with which to start. I used 'Papageno' and have quite a few very well striped seedlings as you might remember seeing earlier this year ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ). Not all striped roses pass on the stripes but you have far better chanes if it is descended from 'Stars n Stripes' (striped sports don't usually pass it on).

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
Simon, thank you for the striped Tip, will keep it in mind
now the first seedling of 'Bonica' x 'Loredo' flowers. It is the nearly only one of the crosse (1/9) who seems to be healthy. All other are suffering more ore less from PM
the good message is, it is not difficult to select the right one....
cheers

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
and thank you for your comments.
David, this rose has germinated in the spring 2009.
I kept it, although it has not bloomed in the 1st year and I also found a place for it in the garden, although the place is limited.
So maybe the two things you need as beeder mostly are a good portion of luck and inspiration as well as 'a good eye'.
You can begin to select the rose seedling stll when they are very small. The good one are still eye catchers !
Simon did it from a pic:
have a nice weekend

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
that's a difficult question, because it is very hot this sommer and the rose seems to bloom continously. Assume that it is one of the last from the first flowering

it's an open pollination of 'NDR1.....'

I've never expected a white rose from this plant, as all before showed pink tones.
