I would like everyone to look for this rose as it's an Aussie and part of Australian rose history.

Her roses have been located in the Hunter Valley ( That's a big area ) due to her obviously moving from Dural.

Thank you for encouraging people to look out for Starscent - my mother Marguerite Parkes bred this rose and she would dearly love to find it. She bred the rose in the Hunter Valley and Mr And Mrs Rumsey where selling it or getting it ready for sale just before Mrs Rumsey fell ill. Perhaps that is why you think mum moved to the Hunter Valley from Dural. Mum has always loved inhte Hunter Valley. Thank you again for your interest

Thanks Lynda for highlighting the search for 'Starscent' and the most recent history. No doubt your Mum likes to keep up with the "Rosy News" so keep the link active

I don't think it's at Parramatta Park. Rita and Meryl you two girls should have some idea where it may be?

Thanks Dave here is a description from Mrs M Parkes today (no photos unfortunately)
From Superstar and Peter Frankenfeld (for shape) - bred at Millfield in the Hunter Valley

First looks red then centre softens to a dusty rose - outer petals tawny pink

Correct spelling is Starscent and it has a beautiful perfume and a perfect HT shape and pointed centre.

Mum asked if someone knows where the plants went when the Rumsey Nursery was split up - we might be able to find Starscent that way. She has some wonderful stories and very fond memories of the Rumseys

Mum sent Jenny Brown budwood to Bruce Treloar yesterday - ninety years old and off to the post office on her own with the budwood lovingly wrapped up ready for the post - amazing woman.

Her Pink Angel and William's Rose are in their second flush right now and she will be off to the post office again at the end of the month with plenty of budwood from both for Bruce.

We are very grateful to Bruce for his interest in mum's roses.

Hi Lynda,
Growing up in maitland,I well remember your parents, they being great friends with my mother Wilga Abrahams.
I recently spent a pleasant morning with another of the maitland group,Barbara Horn, who hasn't changed a bit.We reminisced about those times over 4 decades ago, their enthusiasm and dedication to the genus rosa is similar to the passion shared by amateur rosarian groups such as rose talk.
regards,
Stephen
