'City of Ballarat'
Does anyone grow this rose?
Noticed something odd yesterday as I was watering -- two blooms with a lemon-yellow segment.

Ahhh .. .I knew it was a sport. I wonder if it's a "one-off" thing with the blooms.
Guess I'll find out!

As you know Wendy, some sports are unstable, some even revert. I wonder if it will do it again, will you get any more flowers prior to Winter. Is it only on one stem/branch ?

Re: 'City of Ballarat'
Sports are notorious for reverting or mixing the colours.
Peace 1902 (the Tea Rose) has lemon coloured flowers and is a sport of G.Nabonand which has pink flowers. You can sometimes have a bush covered in lemon flowers, the next flush can be pink or you can have a flush of mixed lemon and pink flowers. Sometimes the buds next to each other can have different coloured flowers.

Re: 'City of Ballarat'
Talking about "unstable" roses: Last year I bought Wizard and Abracadabra. They both flowered. Though Abracadabra did not have the yellow stripes. I read that for the Abracadabra to have its yellow stripes it needs to be at least 3 years old plant. I am not sure if this is correct. Assuming it is, perhaps yours is one of them. How old is your rose?

I thought this was what I would get too. I am going back to the Style Roses and ask for an explanation and be nasty and ask for a real stripy one.... But!... The non- stripy flowers look like the one in your picture. At least they should give me an explanation.

Re: 'City of Ballarat'
Before you have a go at the nursery which you bought it from go looking with Mr/Mrs Google's help and see what make roses "sport/revert".
The best example I can give is, if the "budwood" came from the right stem it might only produce the correct flowers, if it came from the 'budwood" which produced the "red" flower it might take a couple of years to show the "stripey" effect. This can have some variations due to the DNA within the cells of that particular stem.
