Renae, but not pink?

Friend is looking for a fragrant, recurrent, rose, not an HT, that is as wonderful and shapely as Renae (she wants a large shrub) but is NOT pink?

All recommendations welcome. Hybrid musks?. Heritage roses just fine, but MUST flower well and throughtout the season

Crepuscule is hard to beat.

I love my Crepescule, which is stunning when its covered in blooms. It's supposed to be fragrant but I don't get much fragrance off mine. Then again I sometimes can't smell much from other "perfumed" roses, yet detect fragrance from others reputed to have little/none.

I HAdn;t thought of the noisettes, but I think you guys are onto something.I understand that they will mound as well as climb, so maybe Crepuscule wouold do teh trick. Right colour, and as friend used to breed thoroughbreds, there's theFlemington connection. I suspect it doesn't have the scent of Renae, but must be some scent in there somewhere.

I hear ya, silky. Last week teh scentless Red Riding Hood mandevilla was effusively vanilla scented, while Paroles - five beauties in a vase - had no perfume at all. Three months ago I blamed the heat. Now I blame the rain. Next week I'll blame the local oxygen. Stupid roses.

Lol ha ha Betsy , roses are certainly tempermental when it comes to fragrance , i've threatened Blackberry Nip to improve its game or its on death row many times ....

What do your neighbours say when they overhear you threatening some innocent rose?

I've shown a rose bush and threaten it with a chain saw before today.......

I grew Crepuscule for years as a shrub, hacked it back really hard every time it looked like slacking off with the flowers, then gave it a good feed and a drink, and within a few weeks it would be magnificent again. I probably wouldn't be as hard on it now, but it grew and thrived anyway.

Lol Silky , that Blackberry Nip rose drives me nuts , its a real dilemma , its a good healthy , free flowering , good for the front streetscape bed where it cops all the elements , but but the fragrance is only there when it feels like it ,and its a medium fragrance to me , its such a tempermental rose for fragrance and for a fragrance hound well its a dilemma , do i keep it or not , probably not a great picking rose as well , but it does have enough merits to hang in there , i think lol !!!!

Maree do you have different requirements of roses according to their location? I know you are a scent hound and like cutting your roses for the vase but do these considerations vary? For example my roses out the front are really exposed to the elements in hard clay subsoil (despite years of trying to improve it) so they have to be tough and flower freely. Perfume is a bonus. Perfume is more a priority in the back where I spend more time and therefore appreciate wafting perfume. Way down the back I have some with no perfume at all but they were chosen for their colour and floriferousness (is that a word??) to complete the picture from a distance. These are generally surrounded by strongly perfumed roses so I don't notice a lack of fragrance.
Maybe you could look at Blackberry Nip as a good front rose if it flowers freely and stays healthy. That way you stay calmer and so does your blood pressure.

Lol ha ha Silky , yes Blackberry Nip is a good front rose and for that reason it will probably stay , i did detect some fragrance today , the sun was out and shining on the front roses , plus it is a nice colour for a front garden rose .  The rose beds at the back of the house , defintely has to be fragrant though , like you i walk past them all the time ...
