Oh Dan, They are so, so beautiful, I think I am in love again. Can't wait till next year to try and grow a few. Beautiful pics you have a very good selection.  

Gosh Jordan, how many types of roses do you have and also how many?! You always post the most lovely shots of all these beauties! I haven't grown moss roses yet! Don't know anything about them except from your photos, and like Dianne, I think I've fallen for yet another type of rose!  

Sue, It really is an illness, I'm sure. But I have seen the doctor, he says we have to live with it there is no pill we can take to cure it......

Sue, With my real illness I can tell you, this Rose addiction illness has got me through many a painful/dark day. So I will take a Rose Pill any day..
No really though I do love my Roses and have always wanted to start a collection of Moss Roses. If you have some space Sue, why not start one yourself, I know of a nursery with a good selection.
Dan seems to think they aren't too hard to grow.

Oh I so agree!  I always seem to find a few coins/notes in my purse which should go else where, but the rose always wins!  There's always room for just one more!!
If you Dianne, would let me know the name of the nursery etc., I would be very happy!

The nursery is Mistydowns they have 29 different varieties.
Also Honeysuckle Cottage has many but they take forever to get orders to you and often I find I get an order that is half there & there is a credit note, that I never seem to use in the package. But if you are game and silly like I am, they have a wonderful list of Old Fashioned Roses & Plants. I have bought lovely Violets and Buddlejas from them. It is fun to look at their site...

I agree with David . Dianne I should have mentioned Reliable roses and Thomas for roses they are both excellent rose growers

I'm with you Jordan on Honeysuckle, same experience. Roseman is right and I have dealt with Reliable Roses too. (Jean is lovely and helpful). They are "reliable" too. Great selection!
I'll also checkout Misty Downs.  

I have just had a look at the Thomas for Roses Catalogue and they certainly have a good selection on the books, only hope next year they have as many for sale (to hot to send plants to QLD at this time of year). Also looked at Reliable Roses, they have a few also but not many for sale. Never know next year might be a good time to start my collection as I don't dare take cuttings as some people say they can sucker badly, anyone here have a problem like that????

Check your soil PH as the nurseries use different root stock and some roses don't grow too well as a result. Especially if the roses are no really suited to where you live. Moss roses are nice but they prefer the cooler areas I do believe.

From what I understand, generally SA nurseries use Dr Huey which suits alkaline soils whereas the eastern coast nurseries use Multiflora which is better in acidic soils.

Thanks Gary.  I didn't know that piece of info!  Very interesting and something I hadn't even given a thought to!  Umm ... will test my soil - think it is acidic anyway.

Dianne, "Reliable's" stocks do go down very quickly.  I know because Jean, the owner, phoned me about a rose I wanted and she had told me they were out of it until next winter and she would let me know when they were available.

No the Comtesse has been it since the start.

Actually that plant is one of the first roses we ever bought. It was growing in solid clay under a Blue Quondong tree that was getting too large. We had the tree removed and the backhoe driver just dug up the rose and the driver dumped in under another tree and it was forgotten for a couple of weeks.

When we found it we pulled it out cut it back and replanted it and it just took off better than it ever was. We cut it back to the ground (almost) last winter as it was getting a bit leggy and it has grown back as good as any.

They are a solid rose which seem to be able to take any sort of mistreatment

I must be going crazy as I thought it looks bigger & that there was writing on the top that I hadn't seen before. Well your Comtesse is very beautiful....
