advice on new garden bed

Hi to all, just want some advice on a raised garden bed for growing roses on. I have a existing concrete slab which is about 100mm thick and is about 3metres x 3metres in diameter would it be good to build my base on that with good soil for growing roses, or a concrete base is a no go zone??.Cheers

Not ideal.... (I wouldn't do it but there may be some wizards who could make it work)
Some considerations:
* Where would the water run-off to?
* You would have to treat the bed as one huge pot - in terms of drainage AND the soil/potting mix. Soil would just get compacted. Also, you would need to replace it all every few years just like when you repot the regular pots...
* The bed would need to be quite deep if you want to have established plants

If it was me I'd be using the rectangular planter pots to place on top of the concrete. Smaller areas to replace potting mix at any one time and much more realistically manageable.

Danny can you get rid of the concrete ?

Danny, No need to get rid of the concrete if you:
lay a subsoil drainage pipe on the lowest part of the site preferably with a sock(can get them with a filter covering), import 150mm of drainage gravel, cover with filter fabric, then build your rose bed on top of that. Make sure your drainage pipe runs to the stormwater or to a lower part of the garden so the rose garden does not become a pond. You will have an excellent rose garden and not have to remove the concrete.

Alternatively Danny, you could use those rectangular planters as Autumn suggested around the perimeter and turn the area into a rose retreat, with seating incorporated, maybe an arch over a seat. You could have some sort of water feature in the centre. Planting highly fragrant roses there would be a bonus.

Silky, that sounds like a good idea, that's would I would like on my yard!
