Re: Roses on the way !!!
Thanks Jordan. One of my beds will be pinky purply, mauvy, red-dy. Joy of Life and Jessica in another area backing a garden seat. I'm hoping it will all come together in the end.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Grrrrreat choices there, silky. I really want to see the Garden Seat /Path design when you have it ready to shoot (not in a decade from now, either. November is good ;0) Is Jardins de B still part of the grand plan?''My frist order is in from Trelaors: Black Caviar (come in, spinner), s'more Fragant Clouds, another Baronne EdR. I totally forgot Augusta Luise - stupida! - so that one will appear on next and final bareroot order in August. Still considering what else will eb on that list, but it will depend on where and what the end-of-season sales will be.
Hey, don't laugh - I got two Baronnes last year for $7.50! Parsimony rewarded, and how. You are going to like that one, silk.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Baronnes for $7.50! What a bargain Betsy. It must be good if you're getting another! I hope Black Caviar turns out well. I hope you end up finally getting Augusta Luise. I remember you asking me to check her out at MG but they were sold out if I remember.
Unfortunately I had to revise my Jardins deB plans, it was going to be too bitsy in that space. I've tweaked it to use basic idea of a little nook but colours to blend with nearby Frag Clouds. I really liked the combination of Joy of Life with Jessica when I saw them at MG display garden. Joy of Life is the red tinged one, Jessica the pink/peach. Time will tell if it works.

I'm still working on jardins and box hedge idea. Tossing them around still, next year I think. BTW Betsy, thanks for putting me onto Daybreaker, what a beauty she is, still has about 5 buds on her, one bloom lasts weeks!

Re: Roses on the way !!!
You know, silky, I think that the Baronne (I now have THREE) will be a natural mingler with Jessika and JoL When I looked up Joy, I thought instantly of BdE. The Baronne is a very smooth and agreeable guest at most garden parties, and your collection seems to be made in heaven for her.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Betsy what do you have the Baronne growing with in your garden? We'll be able to compare notes and take lots of pics in spring. I'm really looking forward it.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Mine are currently within cooee of Firefighters and Valencias. Valencias not a good p[lan, unless you like dark red and caramel-y yellow together. This year, the three Baronnes will have their own dedicated space along an 8ft slatted wall (not really a wall, just a divider between bedroom deck and adjoining kitchen deck areas). Still not far from FFs. Valencias will join JdBs in proximity.
Like airline schedules, this plan is subject to change without notice.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Haha I know just what you mean. Would you classify Baronne red or deep pink?

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Deep pink, def not red, but because it's a two-shades type flower (sonmtimes more, sometimes a lot less), it has a rather ethereal quallity that goes beyond colour. Honest to god, I have NEVER put it in a vase with companions, from Young Lycidas to Daybreaker to FF to JdB to Love Potion to Big Purple that it hasn't just looked fab, It is surely the most bizarrely accommodating rose I've ever owned.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Well that's good to hear. I asked because HMF describes him as red blend which didn't gel with anything I've seen and read. I don't cut my flowers as often as I could because I love to see them on the bush, explosions of colour through the garden, but when I do I want my flowers to last and not clash with each other. Daybreaker has impressed me for its delicate looking but actually tough flowers and their lasting ability.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Maree, don't feel badly about coming late to the Baronne EdR party.I wouldn't have given this rose a second look, going by photos and sellers' mild rose porn. Only because others here raved, I got on the bandwagon.
Mine are STILL blooming, with no encouragement of good sun or food. In fact, I just cut one for the bud vase, bit the bullet and pruned them back.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Please feel free to say. omg is she mad!!! And tell me what problems I can expect to encounter. And how to fix them. Here is what I have on order for the end of July.
Burgandy iceberg
Seduction
Love potion
Parkinsons Passion
2 Munstead Wood
2 Blue For You
Fionas Wish
Slim Dusty
Old Fragrance
Parole
Crown p. Mary
Joy Of Life
Climbers
Buff Beauty
Mermaid. To cover that ugly great wattle tree peering at me over the fence.
Zepherine Drouhin. I have read that she has to be trained and I have also read that she is better left to do her own thing. If anybody has some ideas on this I would love to hear them.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
Hi Zephy, you have quite a collection there, a nice variety. Last season I planted Munstead Wood and Eyes for You. I like them both, esp MW whose flowers are jewel-like. Both healthy here in Melbourne. Parole I've heard great things about so I'm getting one as well as Joy of Life. Happy planting! I hope you are able to post some pics when they are in flower. Should be wonderful.

Re: Roses on the way !!!
S0me really great choices there. Not a lemon in the lot, I think. I am a True Believer in Parole, ditto maree, who is also a devoted fan of Old Fragrance. Silky, I know, is mad about Munstead Wood and others.
Love Potion might give you some headaches with blackspot, but I wouldn't be without it for shape plus colour plus scent - a pretty thing.
Mermaid - Queen of Thorns. Handsome and huge, and well armed. Keep your tetanus booster up to date ;-))))
