Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
Just lovely Jordan. Beautiful pic of Dioressence, can just about smell it through the screen. Delicious perfume, rich and intoxicating. Do you find there can be quite a bit of variety in flower form and petal count? This happens with mine from time to time, this year more consistent though.
I love the colour of New Kleopatra but when I looked it up on HMF, looked very different. I like yours better. How's the perfume?

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
I can't see any sign of yellow/brass reverse though on the petals that are visible. That colour red is terrific. Pity about lack of perfume.

david, leander is a very strong grower , and tall with rather small flowers , but very nice colour . it is best to be placed in an open area and very suitable as a climber on a wall, fence or pillar , otherwise a healthy rose

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
I find that Leander sulks a fair bit with big gaps between flowering.. my summer avatar is Leander... hmmm not sure about that comparison now

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
hariet, David Austin has made an entire group amongst his roses called the "Leander group" they are what he has designated climbers.
Dan's are more like what it should be like.

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
nice upright shrub, i will give it that ... but i am glad i planted it as a specimen at the back rather than a spotlight position - probably my climate as you say (and of course absolutely nothing to do with my horticultural or lack-there-of skills) ..

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
I have learnt through life that the ups and downs in life is not to put oneself down. Water, food, and perseverance is the way to go. This is not only for hareit, it is for rose people

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
Jordan, I've just looked again at your pics and decided I love Sophy's Rose. How do you find it? Conflicting reports of fragrance, so I'm interested in what you find. Also how is its health. Some say it gets PM and some BS. What do you think? One last question - do the flowers shatter quickly? Thanks.

silky , in the case of sophy's rose ive had no problem with either BS or PM , it is a bit tight with production had two flushes since i got it early last year , the blooms are strong and i cut some for my mum to put em in the house and she loves em and according to mum they last a while , as far as the perfume go, its strongest at night , slighty during the day so in fragrance its not very strong but if you have it close by and smell it at night its quite powerful , so if i had to rate it i would say medium tea fragrance and in all it is a beautiful rose

Re: FEW AUSTINS AND OTHERS
Thanks for that Jordan, very helpful. Looks like another short fat fouffy lady to balance the HT's with their exposed nether regions. Will have to think carefully about putting it on my list. Hmm what to take off then?
