I thought it about time I posted a flower on here, so I have chosen "Camp David" in a vase next to the computer and the "fragrance" wafts across the room and in my mind as it opens it appears to get stronger

Lovely. What is its growth and health like roseman? I'm compiling a list of good perfumed reds and this isn't on it (yet).

We need to get one thing straight here about my roses. They do not get any special treatment. So IMO "Camp David" here grows well here in black loam amongst weeds. So in general it gets some black spot because of the weeds, without it is clean. The plant is about 10 years old, old canes are about shovel handle thick, newer wood around thumb thickness, this years wood pencil, good stem length. Good repeat of bloom. If looked after I reckon it is a good red . Like all roses it will take time to establish. When I weed it tomorrow I will post a photo lol!

David, don't weed, what would you do that for? The grass (Weeds) keep the rose roots cool and are not competeing with the rose. The weeds roots only go down about 3", the rose roots are down a lot further than that. Being a 10 year old rose it will do better with the weeds particularly in summer. Camp David grows very well in Sydney, clean and healthy.
One of the healthiest trouble free reds I grow. What a shame it doesn't have fragrance.

Bruce are you sure that yours is " Camp David" as mine is very strong in fragrance. As for the weeds some are not the sort to keep. I will be replacing them with lucerne biscuits.

Thanks roseman and ozeboy. Good information which I'll file away for my list. I look forward to seeing your photo roseman, with/without weed cover. The fact that it is fragrant makes it a winner for me!

David, might be my fragrance detector being faulty. It still doesn't have fragrance except slight. Mine is definately 'Camp David', possibly yours isn't with so much fragrance. I like the lucerne biscuits if the weeds arn't keepers.

Not a problem Bruce, mine came from Treloars back then as a sample to what was to happen at the cellardoor, an avenue of them for cutting for customers. 240 of them, never happened, the boss went off the idea. Silly bugg##. Can you imagine how much money could have come in from bunches of it.

A friend of mine who collects fragrant reds bought a Camp David two years ago from Treloars. She sings its praises AND says (I am quoting here) is VERY scent-ful. Also she reports that it has great vase life for those wishing to know.

Roseman, may we see your magnificent whole bush???

As promised, here it is in the nude, no weeds to speak of. The plant in the shot is a Magnolia 'stellata' and if you have a good eye you might see 'Bonica', if not next time. So there you go girls. And Snowdrop the chook.

Just checked mine and I do detect some fragrance now the sun has been off the blooms for about 2 hours. Definately moderate not strong.
The canes on mine look the same as yours. There's two new canes one with 14 buds on it and another cane with 11. That's 25 new buds plus other canes. Anyone that doesn't have this rose is missing out big time,
it's also very healthy here in Sydney.
David, I'm pretty sure we both have the same rose. Will have to make a point of checking fragrance well after the sun has gone.

As I spend a lot of time with roses might be I'm not as sensative to fragrance anymore. It's listed as medium fragrance which I will go along with.
