Re: duchesse de cambridge
Jordan, you’re so lucky, my once bloomers, Mm Hardy and Charles de Milles, haven’t shown me any blooms yet. Is that center supposed to look like that?

Jac yes the centre does come that way in some roses, it is called 'proliferation', from memory(I will be corrected by Warren) it is vegetive centre.

Re: duchesse de cambridge
Again unless I am wrong it is in the breeding of the rose, parents. The other consideration comes from environmental condition of the plant.

Re: duchesse de cambridge
Your right Dave alot of the time its the breeding, alot of Austin roses when used in breeding tend to give this malformation. It is something you dont want in a breeding line at all.
There are also those roses when producing very early spring blooms, will produce this, but as the weather warms up they tend to disappear. Looking at Duchesse de Cambridge on HMF from the european members this problem with this rose is in early June , temperatures in those areas would be similar to what we have here in late Sept , early October. All I can say is wait for the second flush and enjoy, looks like a nice rose without the proliferation.
