Ah just beautiful Karen, Glad my couple found a good home. Can I suggest Baxter Beauty if you can get it. Also Alister Clark which is a sport of Marjorie Palmer with more delicate colouring.

Hi Larry, I have Sunny South and Marjory Palmer next to each other or together and they make a very good show. I have Alister Clark but will make sure I get Baxter's Beauty when I start my new garden one day.
How good too to see you again Alee. How is your Cafe going. Wait till you see Alister Clark's Agrosy. I really like Lady Medalist.
Hi Ozrosarian, do you grow Mrs Norman Watson or do you mean from just looking at her here ?

Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
Have you also got 'Lady Huntingfield' and 'Mrs Alston's Rose'? If not I can send you some over winter. I also have a spare plant of 'Nancy Hayward' you can have I think... will need repotting and some growing but it should be ready by winter.
Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
What a rosy colourfest, Karen. They are totally awesaome. The only ones that do well here are Sunny South and Lorraine Lee (must be because of the alliteration:) The others die out after a few years.

Karen, you have those AC,s growing so well. You mentioned Argosy which is my pick of his. Hope to have all his HT's in a year or two.
Shame you have to give up collecting due to the mines. This country needs a new set of rules re mineing. Anyone can be woken up one morning by sound from a drilling rig rumbling up their driveway. Where are the Greens who are supposed to keeping Australia green. Bob and his political party are as useless as t*#^s on a bull. If I ever vote for them then shoot me for I would have gone totally mad.

I have Alister Clark's Cicely Lascalles along the verandah, Countess of Stradbroke on a water tank and Sunlit, Mary Guthrie, Suitor and Australia Felix in various beds. They're all doing well, Countess of Stradbroke and Mary Guthie are the standout performers.

Boarderer would have to be one of the best polys ever bred. Suitor is also a good plant.
Suatter Dream does well up here though it can get a bit messy in the humidity. Restless is a good dark red, Marjorie Palmer is great though we get a bit of black spot on it, Mary Guthrie, Madge Taylor with its large flowers and Zara Hore-Ruthven very nice pink.

Actually we have to keep Squatter Dream in check as it does get lanky. So do Sunny South and Restless. The rest of the shrubs are not too bad. Boarder and Suitor stay smallish (600 high at best).
Squatters Dream does not mind the trim and can come back looking real nice. I think that I cut them back a bit early this year and a couple are up about 1.2 m already so will need another trim for later in summer/autumn. Up this way it does not really matter when you cut things back.
Daydream and Gwen Nash don't grow all that well and even though the flowers are nice they are in the process of being "grown over" by a couple of Noisettes (Cloth of Gold and Claire Jacquier) and will be removed once the others grow large enough (probably next winter) and put somewhwere else to see if they just did not like the spot or whatever.
I actually thought that we had removed Emily Rhodes as she had never flowered. I must have cut her back and she regrew amongst some wisteria and sent out quite a few flowers this spring.

Unfortunately a lot of the spring flowering plants do cop a hiding from the weather. Usually late August-Spetember is fine then we get hot northerlies and humidity. Also the bugs come out and so does the mowdery mildew (it made a bit of a mess this year) so while the roses look great they do not last for a real long time. Of course if I liked spraying my plants things may be better but I'm not that keen (read lazy) on doing it.
Last year was a good year for flowers. The humidity was not too bad and we got more rain in spring which kept the bugs and mildew down a bit.
Autumn is the best wether for roses up here as the humidity drops off, the bugs have died of heat exhaustion and the flowers improve in colour and generally last a lot longer. We do however not get the sprong floers then, however, the camellias are in flower so it is not that bad.

Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
Gary, I looked at your wonderful Alister Clark rose photos the other day. I should of posted a comment then but I thought I would leave it till a little latter when I had more time but then I had a visitor for a night and I have been been speaking a bit about coal mines with people which has kept me away from Rosetalk.
What you were saying latter, thats why I want to move to Tasmania one day to hopefully achieve the biggest blooms and the longest blooming. I surpose there will be a few negatives to try to stop this happening, but the coal mines have have stopped me from staying in this Gulgong climate and enviroment.

Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
Hi Bruce, thankyou for your comment about the mines. One day I will have a better rose garden, so don't worry about me but it is sad for the enviroment herte though.
Newforold, I look forward to having the Alister Clarks you have. You must have a very decrotive verandah and tank stand !

Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
Here's an old photo of Cicely Lascalles on the verandah - taken about 2008, I think. Haven't taken one of the Countess yet.
I am very sorry to hear about the effect the mines are having on your garden/life - interchangable!

And here are a couple of pix taken this morning of Sunlit, a close up and another across the top of the bush. Sunlit is very floriferous, has a pleasant tea scent and blooms right through the season.

Your 'Sunlit" looks wonderful, Meryl. Mine is in a terrible spot between two ash trees. It's only about 1m high I suppose, never looks really robust and only has a few smallish blooms.

Maree, how beautiful your Cicely Laselles is, it is very decorative ! ( I hope I spelt this word a bit better this time ).
Meryl, also how beautiful you Sunlit is and well photographed. My Sunlit is only small too.

Re: Some Alister Clark rose photos
Meryl you asked if they repeat bloom. This is the first time I have seem my Alister Clark climbers bloom. I have a old Mity Downs catalogue with the rose discriptions. When I saw how pretty and stand outish Amy Jonhnson was I looked up about it to see if it repeat bloomed and got a lovely surprise to see it also has moderate Summer flowers and a wonderful Autumn display.
I am looking at the moment to see what others re bloom. Lady Medallist does and Hugh Dettman has some latter blooms. Marjory Taylor is recurrent, Sunny South continuously in flower, and Mrs Fred Danks producing crops of musk-pink double blooms ( all taken from a Misty Downs catalogue ). I better go dead head them real soon.
