Re: My Red Rose
Tish I understand the frustration of wrongly labelled roses, I thought this was Black Beauty, but nowhere near as dark as I think it should be, also no perfume

Re: My Red Rose
I just bought a black beauty and it's about to open in a few days, once it does I can post pictures to compare if you like?
It's such a disappointment to get the wrong roses, I've had so many

Re: My Red Rose
I did a little bit of research. Looks like there's 2 or 3 different types of this rose. I have a feeling that we have the top one

Re: My Red Rose
That's black velvet (in my picture). They come out dark red in summer though. The darkest rose I have is Abracadabra (when it comes out not striped), which is part black beauty. See if you can order that type of black beauty. I'll take a look.

Re: My Red Rose
Tamara and Tish, are we talking 'Black Beauty' or 'Black Velvet" or both.
Black Beauty is from Treloars and is a Kordes rose. I went and checked it's 'pedigree' a bit. In the "IP" listing "Plant Breeders Rights" it states it is a spontaneous outcome from a rose called "Frisco" which is yellow and none on close looking at it's parent tree has red in it, I think they are telling little fibs, that is only my opinion, Regards David.

Re: My Red Rose
Hi David, we are talking about both
I think they could be too. I can't see any yellow on mine. It's supposed to be yellow underneath isn't it?

Re: My Red Rose
I think the black beauty we both have is a hybrid tea. Is that right? And the other is what abracadabra comes from?

Re: My Red Rose
My black beauty is just dark red HT. However, my Abracadabra when it sprouts black beauty is completely different. The flowers are almost black and the petals are very stiff. It's very odd.
My black velvet is gorgeous, I was just saying she should get one of those if she's not happy with her black beauty
