China Cross
A few years ago I did a Safrano X Mutabilis, I am still trying make up my mind what to do with it. Growth is around 2.5 ft, flowers well, even during our winters the occasional bloom will appear. I called it SAFMUT from the first three letters from both parents.

Re: China Cross
Safmut? Sounds like the name you would give a black dog.
Really though if you think of getting rid of it I'll have it.

The name is sort of like that, but that is all I could think of at that moment.

Re: China Cross
It was a similar cross that created Red Safrano, parent to the line of red teas. You should keep breeding with this and see what you can get from it.

Re: China Cross
Hi Rosalie;
This bloom is not long opened but they do go darker red as the age. The plant its self stands out amongst every thing else, foliage is different and the blooms the way they are, very easy to find in the plot. Did another cross with mutabilis as a pollenator, Baronne ED Rothschild (HT) X Mutabilis. Produced two offspring (1) Single pale pink white eye and (2) Semidouble vermillion, both have similar foliage more from the seed parent side and very vigorous.

Re: China Cross
Here are some pics of the two Baronne E d Rothschild X Mutabilis. As you can see they are completely different in the foliage departement and prickles.
This first one has the single white eye bloom, new foliage is green and prickles are quite hooked.

Showing the prickles.

The second one has vermillion semi double blooms, new foliage is red and prickles are small and more numerous.
