Look at my new baby :)
She's not quite ready to bring home yet so I went to the place and chose the one I wanted and can pick her up on Christmas Eve

Haven't thought of a name yet... and she's a little wiffy atm... needs a bath... but she's soooo cute. She's the runt of the litter and I have a soft spot for the little ones

Awwww very cute TasV! Are you going to take her rabbitting?
Don't forget to tie string round the bottom of your trouser legs! LOL

Re: Look at my new baby :)
No... she is to be a pet. They tend to go a bit feral if you also take them rabbiting. The plan is to get her desexed before her first season to prevent the pong and to make it so we don't have to mate her. If you don't mate a female ferret when she first comes into season 90% of them will die. We don't want to have a litter for the sake of having a litter so we'll get her spayed. This will make her easier to handle as well so I won't need to tie the bottom of my trouser leg We run a animal nursery at the local school fair each year so we have a zoo here to take with us

They do make good pets I understand, didn't know about females dying if they don't breed, shame.

Lovely colour - I know nothing about ferrets but I love all animals.

She's such a nice girl too... very affectionate... which surprised me about them really. I bring her inside and after she's finished running around like an idiot (she fits in well around here ), she curls up on my lap or snuggles up under my chin and goes to sleep Her name is Rosie.. what else

Re: Look at my new baby :)
I'll get some updated photos tomorrow... she's growing fast and I can't believe how much they eat!!! I buy trays of casserole beef and cut it up into bite sized cubes and she will eat a third of a bowl (her bowl is about 5cm deep and about 15cm in diametre) in one sitting I keep her cage inside the chicken coup (very very firmly latched LOL) and every few days she gets a fresh egg yolk too. We bought a lead for her and she is learning to walk around on it and she has a date with the vet in a few weeks to be spayed. But.... all in all she's a really really good pet. Alicia is scared of her, Eliza loves her, and the boys are a little stand-offish.
Re: Look at my new baby :)
I used to love ferreting rabbits when I was 8 to 10 years old. The only part I didn't like was digging them out when they cornered a rabbit and decided to have a sleep. I used to put the nets oner the rabbit holes and wait with a Browning Trombone action 22 to get the ones that got out sometimes.
A rough neck friend of mine used to keep ferrets and one day they got out. After a week of searching and telling the neighbours to be on the lookout a Chinese fellow who couldn't speak English sent a message that he had found some animals he could not identify but could they be the missing ferrets. Around my friend went to the Chinaman's house and was met at the door by a fellow with two Bandaids on every finger. The Chinaman used sign language to communicate, continually showing his bitten hands and straight away my friend said " You surely must have my missing ferrets ". Apart from the biting and terrible odour they make pretty good pets. I have never tried them on killing snakes but think 3 ferrets would kill any snake that comes along.

Re: Look at my new baby :)
I've not been ferreting for rabbits... I would but I don't think I could get the kids to eat the rabbit afterwards *shrugs*.
You know what amazed me... the other day we had Rosie out and wondering around on the lead and we took her up near on of the rabbit cages that had about 7 babies in it. Neither Rosie or the rabbits had met before and neither had ever seen one of the other kind. It started of civil enough.. they touched noses and had a sniff and then it was like something clicked in the rabbits and all hell broke loose. There was bunnies jumping in all directions trying to get away from Rosie. It was like some primal switch had been flicked by Rosie's smell and the rabbits were doing everything they could to get away... really shocked me we yanked Rosie up on her lead and ran away from the rabbits and we cold still hear them hitting the ceiling of their cage. Instinct.. gotta love it.

Hello, Billndee, I just checked my position on the map, I am over 300km's from Sydney and it has got me either at Bondi Beach or out at sea. May I ask your first name. Is it Bill or Dee
