Methods of hip collection

I do know that there are not many on here that do not collect hips/seed. If the members that do could they list thier methods on this thread please. if it is not imposing on your methods could it be written from start to finish. This might encourage some other members to try. I am at present only asking on hip collection, if anyone would like to add thier pollination methods, please feel free to do so. Regards David.

This is what I am doing this year based on things I have done in the past:

After pollination (mostly done from mid-November to the end of January here) I wait for the hips to reach 120 days or change colour - whichever comes first - before removal!

Once the hips are taken off the plant I take the seeds out immediately & drop them into a small bowl of water. Wrong or right, I usually only sow the seeds that sink (this year out of the close to 7000 seeds collected already very few have floated).

I put the resulting seeds into little zip lock bags that have a wet piece of paper in them. I use a waterproof marker to record any info! I now leave the bags in a dish (out of the fridge) for a few weeks! Whenever I get to it I open the bags & give the seeds a shake around...I add some moisture if necessary.

When I have a decent sized batch I put them into the fridge where they will stay for 8-12 weeks before being sown in mid-July to mid-August! During this time, I still open the bags at least once a week to check on the state of the seeds...

I must admit I am very slack and leave the seeds in the hips for far, far to long.
I shall do better this year.

I suppose it is all just a huge guess at the end of the day with regard to germinating roses!

Hopefully, rose seeds can forgive us our (possibly) pointless rituals and simply reward us for our efforts! I bet they do...

I dont get the result I am looking for but one day I hope I will. It costs nothing to keep trying.
