Eggs for Rose Fertiliser.
There has been mention on the forum that egg shells are beneficial for roses. I can't really understand why other than to supply some calcium to correct PH. Actually I have been trying the egg shell treatment for 2 years and can't really see any change in their growth, bloom and leaf colour. Two months ago I had two 15 litre buckets of surplus eggs at various stages from edable to the pop stage when broken. These were broken into the soil of 8" pots and then crushed. The remainder were broken down by smashing all in the buckets with a three prong cultivator. The result was poured on all pots with exceptions as I have around 500 roses in 8" pots. The results look very good despite our 40 C temperatures during this period.
The roses have responded very well but so far have not been able to check their colesterol.

I checked Souvenir de Claudius Pernet as it was one that had a liberal application of Bantam eggs. It woud appear that the yellow colour is darker now than ever before. Good nutrition or the magic unknown growth factor at work? This is a very nice HT and doesn't deserve the bad reputation for it is no better or worse than any other HT's

Roses are funny things don't you think? A variety can grow well for some & badly for others & that is why I never take anyone's opinion of any rose variety too seriously! I will grow it my way in my climate & discover its true worth for myself.
