Thornless Bourbon Climbers? Empty Thornless Bourbon Climbers?

Post by rosebud 21st August 2017, 17:12

After much foot stomping I have finally received my long-standing order from Mistydowns. Included in my order are two of the Bourbon climbers, Martha and Kathleen Harrop, both sports of Zepherine Drouhin. These are supposedly thornless climbers, yet they have arrived armed with lots of thorns. Does anyone know if these thorns will drop off as they mature? Helpmefind states that Zepherine D is 'thornless, or almost', but both of these are well covered in thorns. Hopefully one of the rose experts on this forum has experience of these Bourbons and can allay my concerns that I may have received mis-labelled roses!! Many thanks ..

Lillian+

Our Zepherine Drouhin does not have thorns (mind you at present it does not have any leaves either) and I Help me find shows that that Martha and Kathleen Harrop are not supposed to have any either.

I have never had any roses that have lost their thorns as they get older so I suspect that you may have incorrectly labelled rose.

Thanks Gary. Unfortunately, that's my thought - that I've received more incorrectly labelled roses. I've potted these into individual pots just to watch and see when they bloom before I place them where I'd planned in the garden. Sigh. Has not been a positive experience with Md this year - and yet I've still ordered more roses today through their online sale!
