I was reading on mr google where some people have used Kelthane miticide on their roses, so I bought a bottle. However on the label it only suggests using it on vege crops. I rang David Grays where the told me NOT to use it on roses. Any ideas please

Over  twenty years ago Kelthane was the cure all for spider mite however these days a fairly common belief is the due to its over use in isolation (more likely due to lack of  understanding at the time) the mite population appears to have. built up a resistance to it. Although I haven't any knowledge on this particular insecticide many of those used years ago weren't as environmentally friendly as they might have been so I would check this out. What I would suggest you research Kelthane further on Professsor Google and see what you come up with and then you can make an informed decision.

Thanks Ausrose, I have done a bit of a search, some use it with effect, however the issue is that the Kalthane from David Grays doesn't state you can use it on Ornamentals
and Roses. I posted a link in Davids post.

I would suggest you consider using Eco-neem for spider mite as it does the job and is environmentally friendly.

Thanks Ausrose, is Eco-neem and oil based product? I generally don't like using any type of oils.

This link from the web shares the same reasons why I don't use oils, if you scroll down to the last article theres a good article on mites, unfortunately the product this chap uses is far far out of my price range.

I have used oils first starting with white oil many years ago, graduated to Synertrol and these days use both Eco-oil and Eco-neem. I don't have the problems Terry encounters but one must remember I grow roses in Sydney and Terry on the Gold Coast and this maybe a factor. With respect to water as I have written previously on the forum that in an area of the garden where I have pots that are watered overhead twice a day spider mites  are absent. I do have both Vertimec and Omite and use them from time to time. I find Vertimec works very well however Omite doesn't seem to work for me although the Queenslanders swear by it. One of the most important things when spraying for spider mite is to apply a follow up spray 5/6 days after the original spray.

Thanks Ausrose, I would love to give Omite etc, however as stated, the price counts me out.
I have started spraying water during the day, without much luck.

Other places to contact are your farm supply companies, such as Landmark, Elders or who you have in WA.

Some other options are Dow, Bayer, you could email them and ask for assistance.

Thanks Paul. interesting reading from that link, if I were wanting to spray vege crops I thing I'd use something else, however I'm still keen to give it a go. As for the Avid, when doing an ebay search there only overseas listings for it and none here in oz.
I've shot off some emails to a couple of company's you suggested.  Anyone used Kelthane? 2023066572

Well I am stumped, I have contact with all the companys that have been suggested. The end result to all my research is, there are many miticides that are far and away better than the lolly water we as domestic uses can get access to. If one is prepared to dish out maximum dollars, woo hoo. I cannot get hold of any Kelthane that 400g/L, I cannot even get Carbaryl with 500g/L, in my opinion, the domestic stuff leaves you having to constantly use it, where the commercial product would knock things on the head.

Paul, how far are you from agricultural land, lets say orchards, possible sheep/cattle farmers
The other option is if you can get the 'domestic' version, add the rate by whatever it is so becomes the Kelthane at 400g/L,, it is just an idea.

Ok, a bit of luck today, I found an insecticide supplier here in Perth. They have offered me the choice of 2 different miticides.
1. Omite 300 1 kg @ $77
2. Dominex Duo 1Lt @ $85
Both were recommended to be safe on ortimentals.
