Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Oh, you lot are a bunch of wimps! I am BUYING! Yes sir-ee.
I also have two roses to give away (yes, already...). I have already promised Sue Lion's Fairytale, but I have two Austin's that have to go - they are Charles Rene Macintosh (lavender) and Glamis Castle (white). They are very beautiful and healthy so far, but they have a 'myrrh' fragrance that I can not stand.
Let me know if you'll be there and you want either of those

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Hehe no! There will be no more room in this bed once I replace Charles Rene Macintosh with something... I'm thinking of Mrs Foley Hobbs or Mme Antoine Mari...
Although I am thoroughly underwhelmed by the fragrance of Souv de la Malmaison, so there could be one more...

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Hahaha, one has a label, and they're both guaranteed to smell bad
You can definitely have them both if no-one else wants them. Glad to find a good home for them, as they are very very beautiful. Just stinky.

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Ooh, I rather like a myrrh fragrance to mix it up with the heavy rosy fragrances of other roses....But I have no room!!! Dammit! Thanks for the offer Musco (rather like that, appeals to my russian ancestry Lol).

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Silky, Glamis Castle is supposedly rather compact and I have it growing in a pot - perhaps a possibility for you?

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Maybe you need to let the bush mature more? If you want to send her to a new home then I'll take it.muscovyduckling wrote:

And I'm with you on myrrh scent.... I just don't try to sniff 'em!
Glamis Castle is a very twiggy, small bush. Inclined to blackspot. (But I do have it in the garden - just not where I walk past every day... more of "in the view" LOL)

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Zoe, yes thank you, I think I can accommodate Glamis Castle in a pot, since it's compact. It remains to be seen if it cures me of this attraction to myrrh, that so many people have an aversion to. I've even heard it referred to as 'nappy pail' smell. To be honest, I've only caught sniffs in nurseries etc and have never had a myrrh scented rose. We shall see. Lol.

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Ok then! Sue gets Lion's Fairytale, Dan gets Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Silky gets Glamis Castle. So even if you're not buying, you still all get to come home with a rose bush, hahahaha.
Wendy, I'm going to give SDLM another year and see how she goes fragrance wise, since everyone raves on about it. But if I still don't like her next year, I will pot her up for you

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Thank you Zoe! Doesn't seem fair though, everyone gets a rose except you. Maybe you'll find some gems at the Rose Show or Werribee.
Last year at Werribee I got Henri Matisse at half price at the end of the day. I was rapt.

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Zoe I don't think they did have many/any oldies from memory, but I could be wrong, because I was zoning in on HT's and Austins. I also suffer from overload syndrome and it all becomes a blur. Lol

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Enjoyed the Victorian Rose Society's Show yesterday and it was wonderful to meet Sue and Zoe. There were so many beautiful roses on display. Flemington Racecourse stood out for me. Winning Roseraie de L'Hay in the raffle just topped off a good day. Wow RDLH it has a powerful fragrance, its perfume just saturates the air around it, no need to sniff, it's just there. Lovely!

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
Ooh it was a fun day, we met heaps of new people, and Silky and Sue were there. I took a picture of Sue eating some cake, but no rose pictures, hahahaha. I'm sure Sue will put some up when her internet is working again.
Standouts for me were Mrs Fred Danks, Mornington, Variegata de Bologna, Guy Savoy, and Rose de Rescht. I loved the colour of Flemington Racecourse too, but no fragrance means I won't plant it - I'll try Austin's Jubilee Celebration instead (not the same colours, but reminds me of this rose somehow).

Re: Rosey days out in Vic
PS. Dan - I'm sorry, my Charles Rennie Mackintosh that I promised you is an IMPOSTER! He's just about to bloom for the first time, and the bud is orange! I am hoping that he is really Crown Princess Margarita, and was mislabeled CRM instead or CPM. But I will have to wait at least until it blooms before I give it away now.
I'm sorry.
