Valencia - very good heat resistance, good fragrance, suffers from dieback and the petals are loose.

If I could only have one rose variety, I would line up my Firefighter, my Fragrant Cloud and my Valencia. And finally, after mych agonising, I would reach for..... Valencia.

I love those majestic, sturdy blooms, their substance, rich colour, but most of all I am smitten by Val's fragrance , So is everyone who passes by. Exquisite honeysuckle + vanilla. Martino, there's a vase full of 'em in my avatar (whites are Jardins de Bagatelle). Top notch cutting rose, btw.

David, without being able to guarantee the health and vigor of the actual specimens that arrive on your doorstep, I can absolutely and unreservedly guarantee you that the cutting qualities of your Valencia will be four-and-a half stars.

I would give Val 5 stars, but that honour goes to Firefighter which lasts so well that you don't realise a bloom is finished until it suddenly becomes pot pourri on the table top

Just had a look at members' comments on HMF, and they really do tell the story. I subscribe to the general and overwhelming sentiment that Valencia cuts like a dream, smells like heaven ;-)

Okay, though... i have three plants, and they are not all equal producers; one is markedly better than the other two. So don't be too quick to judge Val if your particular plant doesn't give great repeat; I suspect the widepsread problem of dwindling power in the proliferation of clones may be applicable here.

They were purchased purely as a scientific experiment not on impulse. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I thought that it was unethical to use rabbits in scientific experiments even if they are golden ones?

Hahahahahah GARY!

All of my scientific experiments are being conducted on the French aristocracy - Comtesse This, Archiduc That and Princesse TheOther. If they don't perform they'll get the guillotine.

For sheer musicality, I love Ghislaine de Feligonde and Jardins de Bagatelle.

And who among rose fanciers has not at least slightly entertained the notion of acquiring Tipsy Imperial Concubine for its name alone?

Baronne E de Rothschild and Maria Teresa de Esteban are what I would call elegant names and both roses are outstanding show roses?

Doug,
if you did not include "African Queen" your life would not be worth living.
Betsy,
Ghislaine de Feligonde is coming to Mudgee I hope. I am awaiting conformation from Thomas'
Betsy, there is the the story behind this rose " Tipsy Imperial Concubine" in "Naming The Rose" by Roger Mann.
