Re: Ideas of Miticides
Roseman it says nothing about temp or time of day to spray just says repay every 7 days
Re: Ideas of Miticides
Paul, if you spray in the day the chemical dries very quickly and leaves a heavy residue which will burn in the sun......that is why if you are going to spray , early in the morning(just as it gets light, eg 5am), or late in the day when sun is down......

Re: Ideas of Miticides
Well peoples, I took some photos of my plants foliage for your advice. The photo with the whole bush is Ebb Tide, I've inserted a photo of what the plant looked like 2 weeks ago. The other photo is a collection of plants with their ailments. So what advice can you give me.
The only things I've done differently is... I dug in banana peels, I've used worm juice, liquid Potash, 1 dose of Triforine, about 3 doses of Maldison. Application is always late in the day, around 5pm.

Re: Ideas of Miticides
Your problem looks very much like leaf burn to me. Although Ebb Tide's life appears to be ebbing away you may save it by giving it a regular dose of Seasol until the bush makes signs of a comeback.

Re: Ideas of Miticides
I have burnt the leaves on my roses , on several occasions being too heavy handed with the foliar spraying , and just recently too with the Uplift Seaweed stuff , maybe less is better .....

Re: Ideas of Miticides
I think I've been pretty constrained this year, I gave the a pellet feed in September and one a couple of weeks ago. I'm regular with the Seasol and worm juice, (now that could be an issue, I bottled the juice about 4 weeks ago and thats what I'm using now, I hope its not off, I do use Mallasas in the mix)neptune wrote:your not being heavy handed on the loving, are you paul?
Now, when does one put aside their pride and admit to maybe having made a wrong calculation. Now re wettable sulphur, I may have made a dosage mistake some weeks ago. The label quoted so many grams to 10litres of water, however I feel that I did not recalculate the dosage when using my 5litre sprayer. It says 15grms to 10lt I may have done 15grms to 5 lts.
Re: Ideas of Miticides

Re: Ideas of Miticides
I use 3 tablespoons of Malasas to about 15lts of water and then mix up the castings and make the juice.neptune wrote:how are you using the molasses????....how much...how are you diluting....and why are you using it in the spray...etc...
Re: Ideas of Miticides
you will probably find the molasses is sticking too much to the leaves as it doesn't evaporated and then it will burn them. The molasses is made to go directly to the ground as it helps with the microbes in the soil

Re: Ideas of Miticides
stick it in the soil, or really liquefy it and put it on the lawn. First soil....leftover lawn

Re: Ideas of Miticides
Two points I would make Paul:-
1. Your over dosage of wetable sulphur could be contributing factor to your problem as one the first rules when spraying is to follow the recommended dosage instructions given by the manufacturer. From what you have said you made a calculating error and these happen from time to time and one just has to live with the consequences. Early in my days as a rosarian I made such a mistake calculating down that although it didn't it seem to affect my roses at the time it certainly affected my pocket until I realized
My error. Many years back I remember spraying my roses with a combination of wetable sulphur and Omite with the adverse effect of leaf burn.
2. I was interested in the use of molasses as I have never heard of it being used on roses in any way. John makes a good point on its use with worm juice and it's possible effects and I would heed his advice.
John with respect the use of molasses in the soil for the benefit of bacteria I would be interested to hear more information on it.

Re: Ideas of Miticides
Thanks Paul.....as indicated , they are a tea , which gets poured onto the soil.....all the ingredients are to build up the soil organically.......
just curious ...how did you get the molasses to such a dilutive stage, so it will pass thru a sprayer nozzle.........

Re: Ideas of Miticides
John, I take your point, with the talk about foliage spraying being good for roses, I didn't think to hard about it.neptune wrote:Thanks Paul.....as indicated , they are a tea , which gets poured onto the soil.....all the ingredients are to build up the soil organically.......

With the molasses, I put it in a cup and mix in a cup full oiling water, when that's all mixed I just pour into the bucket of water that has the suspended worm poo being aerated with an aquarium pump. When spraying it helps not to have the nozzle adjusted to fine.

how much molasses did you put in the cup before the boiling water....With the molasses, I put it in a cup and mix in a cup full oiling water,

Re: Ideas of Miticides
From what I have m been able to deduce worm juice is probacterial that is made more effective by adding molasses. I am using Gogo Juice which is a probacterial on my rose extensively this year and my roses are the best they have ever looked. Probably the use of GoGo Juice isn't the only reason for my roses being in such good condition as I have had the time of late to institute and maintain an intergrated management plan this year which I am sure has helped. As I stated in another post sometime back my new miniatures in pots are outstanding as a matter of fact they are the best I have seen and I put this to the use of good potting mix, GOGO JUICE, adequate water, successful pest management and the use of a regular frugal amount of Sudden Impact.
