Ideas on covering a trellis.
I have a small trellis which at the moment, is looking for plant friend to grow up it!! It is on an east facing wall, approaching the corner of a north facing wall. It will get morning sun and it is on the edge of a terrace which can get hot in the summer.
I thought about a clematis, but wondered if anyone could come up with another suggestion! There is a rose in the front and I would like the plant to flower and be scented! That's all, you'll be pleased to know!

Sue, Not knowing how big, small is for your trellis have you thought of a Petrea, they are a beautiful Jacaranda Blue Flowers. I have one I have trained up & twined through a Standard Rose Ring and it is just about ready to flower. Then for a smaller trellis how about a climbing Ivy Geranium or Pelargonium, they have a lovely fresh scent when you are watering or brush up against them. A Jasminum sambac would also be lovely as it has a beautiful perfume and it is the one that they use the flowers from to make Jasmin Tea and Perfume.

Boy, the Jasmin sambac sounds lovely as does the Petrea! I'm assuming they would grow well in my part of the world?! Sorry, should have given the rough dimensions! The height is roughly 200 - 300 cms or 8-9 feet and the width - 80 cm or 32 ins.

Yes they both should be fine, if you find them at you local nursery ask them what they think about growing in your area.

Hi Dianne,
Have been to my local nursery and they don't have either Jasmine sambac or Petrea. The Jasmine wont grow here, it's too cold for it! Petrea they warn me, was rather invasive, growing to 30/40 metres!! Are they right?!

Re: Ideas on covering a trellis.
Hi Sue, I just love Mandevilla & the perfume is divine, I did think of it before I knew the size of your trellis, it will be OK but you will have to keep it under control as well if it likes your spot. What about Bleeding Heart or Rangoon Creeper (has a beautiful scent, again I am growing it as a standard on a rose ring). What you plant will depend on how much time you have to spend in the garden, as most creepers do need a bit of controlling. I have never know Petrea to be invasive but different climate, different growing conditions.
Happy Hunting.

Ooh, never thought of those two! Will be going to the nursery over the next day or two so wil check. I do spend quite a good length of time in the garden, so can keep a check on rampant creepers!!
