Potting mix
Hi all,
I have no idea about making a potting mix,but was wondering if there is a good quality potting mix out there (osmocote for roses perhaps) or are they all not what they seem?
I have a couple of bare roots that I would like to repot, I planted them in June, so not sure whether to leave them for a while first, but in light of one of my other roses, Blue Moon (not a bare root) not doing so well I'm going to replace it and will replace the soil as well. I should add that these rose will be staying in pots indefinitly.

Re: Potting mix
most good potting mixes have a little red Australian Compliance label on them. The best and cheapest one that you could buy a couple of years ago came from IGA....go figure.....

Re: Potting mix
It may be just me but I am a bit unsure of potting mixes these days. I don't know if I like the idea of them almost always having fertilizers in them, I personally would like to add my own as you don't know how long the store has had the stock in.
I do try and buy Certified Organic as often as I can. I find the larger Garden Centres & some Produce Stores have these. It does pay to check the PH of any potting mix. I learned the hard way.
I do hope you find a suitable mix for your needs& I am sure your roses will grow beautifully.

Re: Potting mix
Yes we have a Good Landscaping Supplier who sells bulk as well without too many extras, they also sell by self fill bags, much, much cheaper way to go & you can then pretty much add other elements to the mix to make it your own for what you are planting, also they are able to tell you what they have put in it.

Thanks Paul, that makes for interesting reading.
Would it be ok to repot the bare root roses so soon though?

Re: Potting mix
Happy, I would re-pot now if they are not happy or need bigger pots. If they have new shoots/leaves they will sulk, but in saying that they will recover, if you do re-pot them they will need liquid food.
