Bug Identification Please

Hi peoples, I been getting these little green critters more and more each day.
I don't know if the are doing any damage, they like all the plants..
Any ideas please...

It does have wings and is lightning fast...

Paul that's a katydid, eats flowers and leaves.

Silky, do you happen to also know the name of the tiny little insect that looks sort of grasshopper=ish (fiddle legs), is same colour as katydid, a bit more translucent, with tiny black spots and no visible wings.Ovoid head with long bent antennae and expressive eyes. I don't think it's a baby praying mantis or nymph, I think it's pretty well grown. Seems quite prevalent around here, but I have seen them mainly on the white butterfly ginger . Sorry, no pic as yet.

The bug is called a leaf hopper, not sure if they cause to much damage.

I found this one......but after looking at about 300 images of katydid , I could not find one that looks like pauls post, but I did find this one and more of the same of leafhoppers

I had the same result in searching on the web, your photo is pretty well it I'd say..

Thanks roseman' so that's what I've got leafhoppers, well I've got some Yates maverick so here's hoping that will do the trick.

Sorry Paul could have sworn that was a katydid, but you're right Neptune. I stand corrected. Learn something new every day.

Now peoples what would be a good insecticide to spray with..
I have some Carbaryl, not really impressed with it..I want a quick knock down spray...any thoughts

If it was me, I think I'd leave them for a few days to check what sort of damage is evident. Natural predators might help you out but spraying might do more damage in the longer term. Then again I hate spraying chemicals and avoid it whenever possible.

Thanks silky.. I have checked what these chewers can cause and after loking closely at my plants i can see what they are doing its quite obvious to me. I do seem to have a bit of a plaque.. So what does one do.. I can see the damage from these chewers and i have seen the damage what fertilising and hot weather can do. Hmmm a toss of a coin maybe, maybe not, I am leaning towards spraying the a few days later spray with seasol.

Paul , its just me and my opinion , but for what its worth , spraying probably does more harm than good and for me would be a last resort only, these pesticides destroy the ecology of your garden and natural predators , as a example last year i didn't spray for aphids had lots of ladybugs and they ate them all , this year i don't see hardly any ladybugs ,cause we went to QLD for two weeks and i didn't want to come home to a aphid plague so i sprayed twice with neem oil , the ladybugs now have nothing to eat and are not visiting my garden , i won't do that again , i just think you are on a treadmill of sprays once you start . Of course i am only talking of my little suburban garden , not hundreds of roses where sprays are probably a necessity ....
