Re: Advice on a climbing rose please
Roseman , Magic garden roses have Duchess de Brabant climbing too , i'm going to take a day trip up there soon , i chose that one cause i have a small arbour and all the other climbers are too big , except for Pierre , which i had there , but it got BS and no fragrance , so out it came of course , i'm going to plant a clematis with or on the other side if i ever figure out how to do it . Don't know anyone who has planted clematis and a climber together but i know it can be done , just not sure how ....

Re: Advice on a climbing rose please
Hi,
I have clematis planted with all the climbers in my "rosewalk". Just plant them twice as deep as you think they need. The only one whose name I can remember is Niobe and it's planted under Crepuscule.
It looks great when they're both flowering. The clematis need to have a cool root run, so some people put stones or pavers over them.

Re: Advice on a climbing rose please
Hi,
Pierre de Ronsard is very easy to shape. This year it has evened itself out more with a branch to the upper left. When it starts flowering (in a few days) I'll post a new photo of it. It's probably about eight years old. I have wondered if Red Pierre has the same growth habit.

Re: Advice on a climbing rose please
Sorry Danny, I misread your post. Ok then can we have photo of the arch, Double Delight, I would run it up it loosely, given over time it will thicken up and you do not want to cut off the food supply by strangling it with the metal arch.

Thanks Balinbear, your Claire is a lovely creature isn't she. Lucky you can provide her the space she needs. Unfortunately my space is much smaller. Love looking at everyone's ideas though!

Re: Advice on a climbing rose please
Barbara B , just on growing clematis and climbers together , did you plant them in the same hole and if you did ,how far apart ? I don't have a big area , maybe i could plant rose one side , clematis the other side , but the pics i have seen you plant them together , do you have any pics , thanks
