Advice on a climbing rose please

I am considering planting a well mannered climbing rose. It needs to be easy to train, not very thorny, well perfumed and either pale pink or bright pink. Any suggestions?
I have a small dead tree which I was going to remove but maybe I could put it to use. Its 2 main branches arch overhead (about 3m high) and I thought I could attach wires between the branches (less than a metre). It will depend if I can ensure that the ground at the base is well prepared and obviously free of any roots. Will this idea work do you think?
I know next to nothing about climbing roses so any advice will be appreciated.

i know this rose cause i have it and its very healthy .. mind you mine i cant do it as a climber , my sister does have it at her place .. and its beautifull healthy and you will love the perfume .. anyways check out. i'm sure other people on here will tell you about others

On climbing roses guys I'm also new to them and bought my first one this year a HT Double Delight.I was told not to prune it for 2 years and leave it as it is to grow.I wanted to know also when the branches grow bigger do I tie them to the arch to train it , or do I just put the branches through it loosely .Cheers

Nahema is a lovely rose and a marvellous suggestion . I've seen it but never owned it, beacuse because becaquse - no reason really, except that I'm devoted to the noisettes for climbing. For me the noisies are peerless in their ease of care+plus fragrance+ reliable blooming+rewarding growth (most varieties anyway)

Along those lines I'll toss Blush Noisette's hat into the ring. Very pale pink, lovely musky spicy scent, will grow 2m in a year, but has wonderful manners. A gentlewoman ;-) BN is one of the earlier noisettes, before the crosseswith teas produced other sensational ceratures like MMe Al Carriere and Reve d'Or.The noisette-teas I know well enoguh to recommend are white or yellow, though, so of little use.

I have a Pierre de Ronsard and it's a beauty. It's getting ready to flower now and this morning I counted 28 buds on one arm about 1.2M long. It's going to be covered.

Barbara, Pierre was one of the possibles I was considering. I love its flowers. I believe the flowers tend to ball when it rains, have you found this to be a problem? Also how much perfume does yours have?
Nahema sounds like another good possibility but I'm a bit worried that the canes are said to be much more rigid than PDR and might be harder to train, novice that I am. Wonderful perfume though.
Betsy, thanks for suggesting Blush Noisette. This would be new territory for me but it sounds wonderful too. HMF seems to indicate rather a larger spreading plant than the space I have available for it, but I love the idea of flowers smothering the plant and the perfume.

Silky, I'm going to throw Renae into the mix here, too. Virtually thornless, easy to train, very nice fragrance. And it's a Ralph Moore rose that grows very very well in OZ (nobody seems to know how it got here, but here it is...)

Does anyone know much about the new 2010-release pink Kordes climbers Laguna and Jasmina? Both grow to around 3m only. Laguna in particular is reputed to have a powerful fragrance

my Pierre de Ronsard doesn't ball particularly. It doesn't have much fragrance either, but it's just such a very good performer here.

OK Pierre's balling not an issue. Pity about perfume but oh those flowers! Would love to have Pierre, Nahema, Renae AND Blush N doing their thing in my garden! Damn, this is so hard.

A very romantic looking rose maree with its cupped flowers, oozes charm.

I just ripped out my Pierre The flowers didn't always open properly and there was never many. I don't think it does well in the heat here.

Betsy, your bit above is answered here. Some of the older rose growers amongst us will remember a grower from Dural NSW named Roy Rumsey and his wife Heather. Lovely couple which I had the please to meet over 20 years ago. So to answer it simply, prior to quarantine restrictions they and Mr. Moore quite often sent budwood to each other. Roy sent a lot of Alister Clark material, hope that helps.
As for climbing roses we have planted the 3 Pierre's in a triangle to be grown over a structure in the future.

Maree, are you sure it will 'climb', I only know of the bush form, we have it here, if there is a climbing form it would be great over a pergola because of it's nodding flower habit of Tea roses in general

There is a Duchess De Brabant Climbing. From what I have seen it is not as large as other teas and in fact we have one that looks better as a shrub than the shrub version. Could be one of those climbers that just did not want to climb I guess.

Duchess De Brabant Climbing is a nice plant that is not supposed to flower as well as the shrub but if this is so it is not by much.

Not sure what happened there cause i did a post and it vanished.

I was letting you know that Mystydowns has the Climber. Check with Bruce as he may have it.

The problem with climbing sports is that some do not climb. Bruce believes that this is becuse the buds from the parent plant are not taken from the correct place.

We have 2 climbing penelopes and a couple of Devoniensis shrubs that were supposed to be climbers.
