Showing Roses
For the members that put roses on the showbench:
What's a "rose timeline" for how long it takes from bud to bloom? (Weather dependent, I know)
Benalla Show's in two weeks....

Re: Showing Roses
Eeep. I haven't really paid much attention as to how long it takes from new bud to bloom before.... Oh well. Whatever is out will be whatever is out. LOL They won't be super quality but at least they will assist the display!!
There are a handful of blooms out at the moment of dubious quality. The teas are budding up well.

Re: Showing Roses
Wendy go to the farm next door, it might have some. In the open roses "normally " flush" around 4 times in a season. Hothouse roses will do it in under 6 weeks, around a month

Re: Showing Roses
Good luck with your show. Have you an Australian bred class in your show? At last Saturdays NBMH Rose Show I organised an Australia bred Rose Championship which is an Australian first. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The winning unit was made up of Melbourne Town (Chapman) and Hilton Edward (Stibbard) Blooms.

Re: Showing Roses
Thanks, Ausrose.
I did add an Australian-bred class this year. But we didn't get any blooms on the day. We're just a little early in the season (3rd Saturday in October) so rose numbers aren't always flash.
I managed a 2nd place with one of my 'Papa Meilland'. The others I entered were to "bulk up the numbers". LOL
Next year I'll try and coax a couple of my Oz-bred plants along to get blooms...
(HINT HINT, WARREN.... )

If you go to the following web page you find a list of Australian roses and where they maybe obtained.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
For show purposes the ABRF recommends:-
Exhibition - Governor Macquarie (Grant), Our Rosamond (Bell)
Floribunda - Flemington Racecourse (Chapman), Imp (Dawson)
Mini flora - Joyce Abounding (Chapman)
Miniature - Delicious (Welsh) Red Gem (Chapman - to be released next year)
