Mystery Rose. Empty Mystery Rose.

I have a very , no that should read VERY thorny rambler type rose growing in the garden which I have always thought was R. laevigata and just left it at that. It was given to me when the G.C in town changed hands and it had no label on these few scruffy thorny canes but the odd leaf that it had did look familiar.
It has big white single flowers in the spring that cover the bush now that it's more mature.
Last spring it set some hips for the first time ever , and someone told me well it can't be laevigata because that doesn't set hips .... it must be bracteata but I don't think so , the petals look different.
So anyone want to take a guess ? because I am completely befuddled now.

Laevigata does set op hips...it is laevigata - are there any seeds in the hips? I was thinking that with laevigata we might be able to 'trick' it into making hybrids by using mixed pollen on it. I.e a pollen mix using laevigata pollen and pollen from other fertile diploids.

Thanks Simon for the quick reply .
It can again go back under the monkier of Laveigata.

I reluctantly cut off the the three hips this arve because I thought the parrots would get them.
There is another one maturing on the bush.

I have only cut one hip open.
It was packed with seed . One half of the hip just got pulled and scraped open and then planted in a pot.
The other half got the seeds scraped clean and then sowed in a punnet.

Simon , I started to count them but the kids distracted me ; there were over a dozen that went into the punnet.
I know I sat there at my potting barrow marvelling at how all these seeds were packed so neatly into a hip without the need for wadding or fluff
[compared to some hips that I cut open yesterday that had one or two seeds packed in amongst heaps of w&f]
I should have taken a photo.

I have put the seeds in the set and forget part of the pot ghetto , so someone please give me a poke in a few months time to go and have a look at them Laughing

cheers. Rosalie

Sleep ? What's that ???
Once upon a time I used to fantasise about winning division one in Lotto.
Now a days I fantasise about getting eight hours unbroken , uninterrupted , decent sleep. Sleep

You sure are good at comming up with some smart things Simon. I am interested to see if you can trick R. Laevigata.
They are big rose blooms, Rosalie. Good luck with the seeds and I will try to remember to poke you. LOL
