As promised yonks ago I have managed to transfer with help from Mitchell, which are like all children good with computers. I have the owners permission to post it for IDing purposes, Hope some one can help. The rose now lives in Lara Vic and we have one of them living there for us when we return

Trier is quite double with small flowers. I was thinking hybrid musk too and kept coming back to Sally Holmes...which I don't think it is... but... this is what it reminds me of.

Re: Id Of This Rose Pleeease
Further info on helping the ID of this rose, this is from previous owner.
There will be a picture of the thorns coming to me sometime this afternoon.
Hmmm... it's been a while.... From memory it had a light fragrance, nothing overpowering. It had one main big spring flush, with an occasional spot flower for the rest of the season. The canes made it seem like it wanted to climb,, some must have been about 30 foot. It picked up black spot late every season but that didn't seem to knock it back.
Does that help?

Love those shiney spot free leaves David. No doubt the pix was taken in Mitchell ( Dry Climate ). Would test it for you here in Sydney if you so desire. Gosh I'm big hearted.

Re: Id Of This Rose Pleeease
Thank you very much Warren, I know we have good detectives here, but, with his lifetime in roses I thought it was worth a go.
After looking at HMF, it is not listed for sale here, I wonder how it came, possible an old nursery that closed.

Re: Id Of This Rose Pleeease
There aren't many descendants on HMF... I'm thinking it's a difficult parent. Was rumoured to be a laevigata hybrid but DNA analysis has shown there is as much laevigata in 'Silver Moon' as there is in 'The Fairy' Viru used it successfully with clinophylla and then with Bonica to make 'Silver Dawn'. Robert Rippetoe is using 'Silver Dawn' a bit so it's probably and excellent subject to play with to try for better Aussie roses. It's seed parent is 'wichurana x Devoniensis' so there is Tea blood in it already. There were a few wichurana x Tea roses done around this time. I'm growing out some 'Paul Noel' to see how they go too and have done Rosa wichurana x 'Monsieur Tillier' that look like they are sticking so far too. If I was going to play around with 'Silver Moon' I reckon I'd like to use it as a pollen parent on some of the Teas or Chinas too, and then throw some DA's into the mix to try for the Aussie DA's.
David, 'Silver Moon' shows up in 3 Aussie gardens on HMF... it must have been offered for sale at some stage.

Re: Id Of This Rose Pleeease
Howdy all,
Silver moon was used a bit as a seed parent, On HMF some of the descriptions of offsprig sound good even though there are no pics , I think the foliage is good. Dave your right I am going to use in breeding

Re: Id Of This Rose Pleeease
It used to grow opposite the Gamble Garden, and was circulated for a while as "Coromandel Rambler" till someone IDed it. I think the reason it fell off catalogues is its enormous eventual size, like the one at Ruston's. But even the one at Ruston's is being overtaken by Marie Leonida!
