Eric Timewell sent me these pics of a rose growing in New Farm rose garden. Eric is studying the roses of Australian rose breeder Frank Riethmuller. He asks if anyone can please identify this rose at New Farm.

On another issue he writes that there is some doubt about whether the present Riethmuller "Esmeralda" is authentic. The original release was said to be a single rose with white centres and a paler reverse. At first he thought the Rosemount rose might be the Esmeralda original, but its reverses are not paler. Can anyone shed any light on this? Bruce, I can PM you Eric's email address if yoou would like to discuss this with him.

Anyway here are the pics of the unknown New Farm rose. [I always find it interesting that what some people class a Polyantha is what I would call a fairly typical Multiflora!! scratch ]

Anyone had any thoughts on this rose? It would possibly be under water by now.

A lot of people find multifloras and polyanthas confusing. I understand that the difference is that multifloras are mostly spring flowering only. But if they are a hybrid, then who knows.
