New Years Rose grower
Hi everyone I'm a new rose grower. This is my second year and huge learning curve. My Dad grew roses and I've always wanted a rose garden so ripped up the front and now proud carer of 25. Is anyone else having an aphid swarm this year?

Nothing special. Just the usual 10 billion. Just squeeze them with your fingers.

Yes, we have them in hodes here in Mudgee. Can I ask Malnewby are you one for chemical sprays or do you want organics ?
The other Q is can Malnewby shortented to Mal by chance, is Mal part of your Christian name ?

Re: New Years Rose grower
Hello and welcome,
I had a severe outbreak of aphids last year and the ladybugs couldn't keep up. The most effective thing I found was a basic soap spray.
Hope this helps,
Louise.

Re: New Years Rose grower
Hi Rosarian thanks so much for your comment. Last year, my first year of a 25 rose garden was a steep learning curve. Really got into the Rose Shield chemicals etc. but half way through the season got interested in 'organic'. I think my aphid problem largely stems from spraying the bejesus out of my garden last year. Good bugs along with bad obliterated. So this year trying to stay with Eco products and have just introduced Gracey lacewing trying to get on top of it all. I'm hoping all of you experienced growers will be a valueable 'go to' for all things rises. Yes, Mal is short for Marilyn
