Gary I would have been able to attend the day, but have another commitment on that day, it would have been a nice drive up your way, then enjoy your garden and hospitality. Please do not hesitate to post some lovely photos.

Ahh. How can I put this. They have gone to heaven.
We decided that they were too much trouble at the moment. When we have both fully retired we will get some more and just have one of those mobile pens. The old pen was falling down and in retrospect it was too big as we used to let the chooks out during the day and at night they lived in their house so a 6 x 6 metre run was too big.

Re: Saturday 10 October
Hi Sue
Thanks. I walked around early this morning and could not believe how nice it looks. Lots of hard work but it has paid off and now the workload will be reduced somewhat (until we decide to change something else).
The garden, house, driveway etc covers about 2 acres. The garden is actually on a fairly steep hill so it can get a be tiring walking up and down especially if you are like me and start doing something down the bottom only to realise that I had forgotten something and then have to walk up to the shed to get it. The problem then is that I get distracted by something and completely forget what I went up there for and then proceed to walk back down (usually with something else) and then have to go back up to get what I needed in the first place. It is also hard when you put your secateurs down somewhere and have to go looking for them. This probably explains why we have about 10 pairs of them.

What a beautiful garden you have.
I love your old roses.
How manay rose ddo you have?
I love your visteria too.
Seeing your pictures makes the giult of spending for more old roses go away. (I have placed about 200 more roses and 90% are old roses and species including another hulthemia edward hyams and hulthemia persica to be delivered next year. 99% of them coming from petrovic roses)
Yor garden is very inspiring.

We have about 250 varieties but we have several of some varieties (probably 70 of Comtesse de Larbarthe).
Most are "old" roses (Teas, Chinas, Noisettes) as they tend to suit our sub-tropical climate.

David
I's a shrub form (did not know there was a climbing form but wish I had it if it exists). We got it from Bruce a couple of years ago. It has not been a rapid grower but it is starting to shape up.
I'll put some more photos up later tonight or tomorrow. I am just glad we have digital cameras these days. Buying film would have sent me broke.
