Re: Experience with arbours?
So true
Now, about this wonderful Reve d'Or - is it a creamy buff yellow like Buff Beauty, or does it have a creamy pinkish hue mixed in?
Now that I've ordered a bunch of roses, I've realised they're mostly pink and white, but I have a few with a touch of yellow to them (Archduke Joseph, Anna Olivier, Marie von Houtte, Felicia, etc). I'm trying to figure out how to lay them all out without it looking revolting. I don't have any yellow colour anywhere else in my garden at all. Ha.

Re: Experience with arbours?
Mine (one in Seattle area, one in Lower Hunter) were pale yellow with deeper yellow centres. I haven't noticed any pink, and I've never thought of Rd'O as buff. Seattle ones were slightly stronger yellow because of climate. In the Dandenongs, I think you'd get a stronger yellow, too. This rose fades a bit in our hotter climate during long dry stretches without cloud protection. It's no Gold Bunny - not a bright buttercup colour

It's probably more a clotted cream colour than a yellow.

The good thing about the older rose varieties is the colours are a bit softer and they tend to blend without worrying too much about mixing and matching.

Now that's interesting, because mine are/were a bit yellower, less creamy. Maybe extra sun up your way, balinbear? But yes, the older roses, and definitely the noisettes, are very subtle, no shriekers

Bah. It's just impossible to tell from the pics! I'd love it if it was a clotted cream colour for me, but I don't want a yellow.
Why aren't there more creamy roses? There's a cream DA rose called Wollerton Old Hall that I LOVE but it is not in Oz My heart is a little bit broken over this.

Re: Experience with arbours?
PS. I got my hexagonal gazebo/arbour type thingo from Gumtree. I think not bad for $300, and I will post pics when I put it back together.
Also, I'm totally sold on Reve d'Or. I'm going to plant it on my fence next to the neighbours shed. Hopefully it will eat my fence and then eat his ugly shed too. He doesn't know yet. Heh. Gotta call Jean!
