Alec's Red
Was browsing in a garden today and was stopped in my tracks by a vision splendid. Alec's Red. Covered in huge cherry red, but sort of muted, not garish blooms and the fragrance! Whooee! Fantastic wafting perfume. I think it's got to me.
Does anyone here grow it? How do you find it? Growth, health, repeat and does it ball in rain?

Re: Alec's Red
The ones I saw were a deeper tone Neptune, more cherry colour. Do you have it yourself?

Re: Alec's Red
I'd like to try this one now. Funny, the name is so well known to me, but I never investigated the rose itself, always assuming it would be a lesser version of its parent Fragrant Cloud.

Re: Alec's Red
Thanks Danny, yes I found it. Middle sized? Great! You captured the colour well. Treloars pic looks a bit like Fragrant Cloud but Alec's Red is more cherry red bordering on the outer limits of deepest dark pink. Hard to explain. It's a truly beautiful rose. The owner of the rose gave me a bloom and it's in the kitchen now, lasting well despite sitting in a hot car yesterday and today's heat 31 degrees (and our house is hot). Still very fragrant! I note that "Steve" mentioned inconsistent scent on HMF but going on what I can smell, it is a very powerful fragrance.
Betsy be sure to check this one out, I think you will be captivated like me. I wanna have it and I will. Don't know where but I'll have to find a spot. One for next year. Unless of course someone has grown it and it's a fizzer!

Re: Alec's Red
I am with you all the way on this rose, silky. I'm also going to ring around to the three largest nurseries in the area, and see if they have one/can get one. . Will also speak to Treloars.
