New to Rosetalk
Hi, I am a new member to Rosetalk my name is Dennisd for list purposes. I have life long interest in roses. In the past thirty or so years I have cared for about a thousand roses per annum, however I have taken up a position in Canberra looking after the Old Parliament House Rose Gardens and the National Rose Gardens. We have to look after over ten thousand roses across a wide range of species and types. I will be very interested to share my highs and lows with others on the forum in coming months. We have just finished pruning the roses at the moment.
Cheers
to all. Dennisd

Re: New to Rosetalk
Welcome from me Dennis, as you are the only Dennis we have I guess you could drop the D. As you might have look at all the parts of Rosetalk the system will only allow photos after 7 days, there other methods but they can stay there unless you savy with them. In short I would and I hope I speak for the other members can we have some shots of the garden now and in previous times if you have any.

Re: New to Rosetalk
Yes Out of Braidwood at 5.30 am three days per week to start work at OPH and NRG at 7.00am home around 5 ish usually so it is a long day for an old fella, but very enjoyable. They do give me some help. I do all the technical work, spraying, pruning, training staff and volunteers (we have over 60 now). Dennis

Re: New to Rosetalk
Dennis with the offer of paperwork relating to roses, would you have a map of the roses in your care, I understand if you can't show us because of national security at OLD Parliament House and the Senate,

Re: New to Rosetalk
All the roses are named and mapped, however I do not at the moment have maps of individual gardens. In say the Rex Hazlewood Garden (Senate side) there are over 28 different types of roses covering hundreds of named varieties. This garden traces the history of the rose.
Sometime later this year I will be doing an audit of all the roses on the estate and may have maps then.
Cheers

Re: New to Rosetalk
Dennis, I'm into saving Australian bred roses and have quite a collection. I have a small boutique nursery on the outskirts of Sydney. Are the rose gardens accessible to the public during the day or only when group escorted.
As you appear to be one of the movers and shakers there perhaps a group from the Forum could have a tour?
My interests are in Minature's and Aussies.

Re: New to Rosetalk
I would be happy to take a group over the OPH and National Rose Gardens after they are in full bloom say late November on. We have quite a lot of Aussie bred roses. As I said all roses are labeled so everyone can read and see types, species etc. I am at work varying days per week depending on schedules but can go in at weekends to take groups through the gardens. We also have a Friends of Old Parliament House Rose Gardens Group as well.

Re: New to Rosetalk
Looks great Dennis, perhaps the Forum members are too wide spread to make a group though anyone interested please let Dennis know.
If numbers are down and not worthwhile then perhaps I could join the Friends of Old Parliament Garden Group during one of their tours. I for one am very interested so please PM me on the private message section of the forum.

Re: New to Rosetalk
A leisurely look around and chat takes about two and a half hours which could include a coffee at one of several outlets in the area. Depends much on the group, if there is heaps of interest then it will take longer. The roses are scattered over a very large area. Some are around eighty years old and others about ten years old.
