Butterfly

I know this is not a rose subject, but I thought you might all appreciate this anyway. This beautiful butterfly hatched outside the front door of my work a few weeks ago, I just happened to be lucky enough to witness it!

Oh how wonderful! What a glorious creature! Lucky you that you were able to witness its emergence.

I was wondering if I would come to work one day and it would be gone but I got there just before it flew off!

Rosy do we get discounts on alarms, to get shots like that you have to be in the right spot at the right time.

I don't work for an alarm place roseman that's just our alarm notice that the place is alarmed :-)

Amazing thanks Betsy! It was a beautiful thing to see. Then I noticed 2 more dark brown chrysalis on some terracotta pots out the front!

She's beautiful Rosy , but i wonder why she chose your workplace and not a nice bush or something ...

Not sure .. There are plenty of trees and bushes nearby and this is on a wall

I think it's a canny caterpiller that selects a protected wall or window sill underside for a cosy chrysalis hammock. Out in the garden wilds, perilously exposed on leaves, they'd be subject to wind and rain, and leaf-combing predators. Walls are better, I reckon. Hey, Rosy's butterfly even had its own alarm system ;-)

I also understand that the newly emerged butterfly absolutely nust have a steady vertical surface to climb up when it begins the wing drying process.

No idea how the caterpillar got up there! There's a long footpath from the garden and the sign is really high off the ground. Fascinating!
