How big is the rose?
Has anyone grown Elina? Just would like to know how tall and wide it gets, checked out helpmefind, but read somewhere it's more like a shrub.
Also City of Newcastle?

Re: How big is the rose?
The Elina that is in the Benalla Gardens is pretty tall I think? Width is hard to judge in those exhibition beds where they keep them "tidy".

Re: How big is the rose?
At this present time, my Elina and Cof N are the same height and width. 1.3m x 1.3m. You have to remember in the growing season , they are taller because of trimming the blooms back.

Re: How big is the rose?
Thanks everyone, I'm rearranging my garden a little bit and I wanted the biggest rose to go in a spot I've picked out. I have Folklore which I've heard can get around 8ft. Might be the winner I think.

Hi,
my Elina is a big girl. I have 6 and they're in different parts of the garden but all become about 1.3M X 1.3M. Beautiful rose for cutting.

Re: How big is the rose?
Happy roses, I have an Elina (Very Healthy) at just over 8 feet high and 3'6" wide. It has a great number of canes and this year produced one hip. When opened it contained 2 seeds which are now in the fridge.
Have never seen a hip on it in the past three seasons of growth.
Without a doubt one of the most vigorous HT's in my yard. Great blooms which seem to cope well with the elements.

Re: How big is the rose?
if an aussie bred rose is attractive try Governor Macquarie. reliable to 6'/1.8mtrs or more up north of Sydney. and Trevor promoted to be that it was black spot free. we have found it very clean, but ... the proof is in the growing. Trevor's breeding was done around Buladelah NSW, very wet and humid area, so he'd know.

Re: How big is the rose?
our G/Macquarie has long canes and are as tall as the gutters on the house. Trying to keep it upright(the canes) is a staking probblem. They bend over quiet well as they seem too top heavy. yesterday i cut one of the canes that was bent over and was stuck in a rose bush that was 2mtrs away...at the moment the leaves were running good except the storm trashed it a bit.....

Re: How big is the rose?
that would be right neptune. maybe it is best treated as a "pillar" or climber.

Re: How big is the rose?
One of Governor Macquarie's parents is Folklore and that is where the rose gets its growth habit. Trevor told me when he was alive that it is a good idea to cut the long canes off at waist level and make the rose spread rather than let it go straight up. I have a cutting of the original rose and I am more than happy with the flower and the rose's disease resistance. I believe it has potential as an exhibition bloom and wouldn't surprised if it picked up a champion exhibition rose ribbon in the not to distant future.

Re: How big is the rose?
I wish I knew about cuttng the canes in half during last growing season. It was a bit awkward for the missus cuttng a flower up near the gutter of the house.....

Re: How big is the rose?
John if it makes any sense when we had cut flower roses(10000) of them we would do the same, cut the stems back to that height so as to make them manageable, it wont hurt it. In your area I think you will get quick regrowth.
