Anyone know what this rose is?
Hi. I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what the rose I use as my avatar is.
It was given to my Mum by an elderly lady from across the road to remember her by, when we were shifting to a new house.
This was over forty years ago and I'd love to know what the rose is.

Is the rose bush still accesible to you and if so...can we get photos of ..
close up of the flower..
close up of the leaf...
close up of the cane and thorns...
they all help to get the answer you need

Ok people, lets do this systematically. I will start it off. Add when you can.
1. High centred Hybrid Tea
2. Pink or of pink tones.

OK, I'll do that but excuse my ignorance; I'm not real flash at this computer thing and it says on the FAQ page: "must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server". um, help!

Your rose seems to be a lighter shade of pink Matrice.

Re: Anyone know what this rose is?
City of Hereford is another one that comes to mind but HMF does not have a pic of this one.
I'm mentally going through the pinks that my mum had planted in her garden in the 70's.
Does it have a touch of gold at the base of it's petals ?

The other one that comes to mind because of it's classic HT shape is Tiffany.

No, there's no gold or yellow tones whatsoever.
It's leaves are a dark, glossy green and it has very symmetrical, alternating thorns about 15mm apart.
There is a bud on it now and I will take photo's of it at various stages and of the plant and leaves and post them as soon as I learn how to upload these images on Rose Talk.
I must say, I am overwhelmed at how many of you are coming to my aid, so to speak. Thank you!

Thanks once again.

Re: Anyone know what this rose is?
I'm now allowed to post photos so here goes.
The "parent" plant was given to us in about 1968 (definitely before 1970) and now only gets about 4 hours max. of morning sun and the photos are of it.
I have taken some cuttings and one has grown and it is in it's second season in the ground. It has had some blooms and they are exactly like it's parent and seems to be growing like it as well, that is; one flower on strong stem/cane that has prickles to the flower and large thorns below. Although not strong, there is a very pleasing rose perfume to the flower. It is of upright habit and we have had a cane that has reached 220cm+ with a bloom at the end through the mandarin branches which, unfortunately, the rose bush now grows behind/to the side of.
I am sure that I will be able to tell more about the nature of it's habit from it's offspring next season which gets at least six and a half hours of sun per day.
It is definitely not Bewitched 'cause I grow her and I know for sure it isn't her.

Yes. It has a lovely, pleasant rose perfume. It isn't strong/overpowering but it's moderate.roseman wrote:Matrice, back to the chase,

I think you are right David, it's 'Sylvia'. A very good rose which tolerates our humidity well, you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Re: Anyone know what this rose is?
Bruce, If it is 'Sylvia', we will have to wait for Matrice to reply about fragrance. That is my concern, it 'Sylvia' might be a bit stong.
