Beautiful pics of bestest fur-friends
Think James Herriot had it right when he said the glory and the heartache of the amazing relationships we share with dogs, is that their life is so much richer, and so much shorter...

Re: My Other Best Friend
Him and Gerald Durrell, two of my childhood heroes, and both had huge influence on my life. Two of the world's really special people.
Re: My Other Best Friend
Reading James Heriot and Gerald Durrell [and Thelwell] in the library at highschool was my escapism from the bullying.
I too have a very much well thumbed over collection of their books here now ; along with my copy of Lord of The Rings [which is all tied together with an old bootlace] , they are on the "Don't Touch unless you ask Mum first and then you must have very clean hands and sit still on the lounge to read them " list of books. lol
Although there were very moving parts in all of J.H's books , his conversation with Miss Stubbs about her dogs and whether they would go to Heaven because animals are supposed to have no souls .....
still moves me to tears
"Responding to a dying old woman's inquiry
James Herriot, the late British author/veterinarian noted:
"If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty
and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of
humans. You've nothing to worry about there."
He goes to note regarding animals
joining their masters in the afterlife:
"I do believe it. With all my heart I believe it."
James Herriot "Dog Stories"
chapter The Card Over the Bed . "
I didn't have time to flick through my books to find the passage so I googled for it and I found it along side all these other wonderful words from different people.
Be Warned !
If you have ever lost a treasured dog or other pet .....
have a new box of kleenex ready.
