One of my Buddleja seedlings

I wonder what other plants that would work with

Oh Simon, I feel like such a geek not being able to strike the cuttings. It was totally my fault. Bruce kindly handed me his secateurs and then let me take what I wanted. I think where I went wrong was that I plonked them into a bucket of water with a few drops of fish emulsion and left them sitting there for a week or so as I was flat chat with other stuff at the time. I thought that they would root, but they didn't and when I got around to putting them in pots they just curled up their toes - sorry Bruce

Thanks for the offer to send me some of your cuttings Simon. I will get to the post office sometime soon and would appreciate some of your beautiful buddleja cuttings (preferably just white/purples/pinks). I just may do your trick with the raffia and, if sucessful, I can plant my BAS underneath the back patio to give us some shade from the hot westerly sun.

I, too am a buddleia lover. Our front garden is bounded by a semi-circular driveway in front of the house and I have buddleias along the length of the driveway. They are very tough, take the heat and the cold and don't need a lot of water. I think I have 17 plants. Varieties include the original blue buddleia davidii, 'Black Knight', 'Ilse de France', white buddleias (which I use to mark openings into the garden), an apricot version, buddleia lindseyana and buddleia salviafolia and buddleia alternifolia, both of which I adore. buddleia seedling come up everywhere in the pebble paths and I am forever pulling them out. One has managed to come up in a garden bed and has flowered, a very pale mauve, which is a colour I don't have elsewhere. The apricot one, buddleia salviafolia and buddleia alternifolia are pruned to encourage their lovely arching shape. The rest of them get several thorough dead-headings a year to keep them nice and bushy, but I only cut off what I can reach from the ground!

I would love to see photos of your species buddleja (salviifolia and alternifolia). I have been looking at salviifolia lately and thinking it is a mighty handsome plant. Do you species ones self-seed easily? My Buddleja loricata has never set self sown seedlings (unfortunatley). I think one of the areas of research at the moment is to see if hybrid buddleja can be bred, with davidii, to make sterile garden plants. I think that would be a great move. Salviifolia is one they were talking about using. It's quite a large tree isn't it (maybe I'm thinking of B. saligna)? Would you like some cuttings of Buddleja loricata (see photo on the first page)?

If someone could buy these I could nab cuttings off them LOL

Another wet blanket comment. Check whether any buddlejas are declared weeds in your state before you swap cuttings.

Pots full of Buddleja 'Silver Anniversay' cuttings for a low hedge we are making. I the leaves on this buddleja.

I don't think mine is going to work as the varieties are too different in growth habbit.

Really amazing, is that a gauze bag on the mauve slightly left at the top.

When the Kerrigans home was being sold recently several prospective buyers replied "Tell Him He's Dreaming" when the agent gave the price.

On another note, it is normal forum etiquette to move on once issues have passed without taking pot-shots when opportunities arrise. It just makes more work for me to deal with... moving on...
