'Love Potion'

This is a new one for me, bought as an own root plant. In a dry pot at the nursery it shows some mildew stress. It's now in the ground with ample water so will see how it cleans up. Very healthy looking rose so far in a colour I don't normally associate with great health. This is the first flower it has had for me since getting it a few days ago. Seems fertile as it has a developing hip on it. Lots of comments on HMF state this rose thrives in the heat. Maybe it will be useful in breeding.

I do like that one Simon, it is one I dont think I have seen before.

Mine has amazing flowers, and the scent is incredible. It has been a slow grower, and because it seems to be small and close to the ground it tends to get a lot of black spot. It has started to flourish with the heat though I have noticed.

About 4 months I think. But it could just be a slow grower for me not sure I do love it though.

Swanes have it in their Sydney Display Garden which is usually looking first class. The continual rain and humidity has knocked quite a few HT's around badly despite their spray program. Will have a look and see how well it is doing in our current climate. Interesting your comments re hips as most display gardens are cut back very hard and hips are never seen. Shame really as hips are one of roses attractions.

It would be really interesting to see how other peoples are growing compared to mine.

Will keep people updated on how it goes... it really has not excuses because it is in one the prime spots in the whole place: right outside the front door where it gets full sun up until about 3pm and then shade. I don't know what kind of disease management program it has been subjected to prior to arriving here... it doesn't glow in the dark though

Hello Admin, nice to see you alive, healthy and posting sometimes when time permits.

I found 'Love Potion' at Bunnings last year, I tracked it by the perfume
There was a great rack of them, together they smelled and looked glorious.. one found it's way into my basket instantly- very fast to jump in, slower to grow, but apparently naturally a low-growing little rose. She is doing really well, not taking off like a rocket, but trundling along nicely, at the front of the garden with taller roses and perennials behind her. I had to move some taller perennials as they were growing over her, but as long as she has fresh air and is not crowded in, she just minds her business, and gives lovely blooms.

All that and ruffles, too. Gorgeous. I already had one on order from Treloar for July. Will make it two.

Swanes sold it for a few years. It's a pretty healthy rose worth a trial.

Bic W had a batch of these when I was over there yesterday. Looks like a nice healthy rose with a great perfume.

Anyone have any updated experience with them?

I asked about LP on a different thread a few months ago, but didn't feel much raving love for it here. In the end, I didn't order it. Given that it's a shorty and slowpoke starter apparently, and I have the attention span of of 3 year-old, probably just as well that I moved on to other Bright Shiny Things to order.

I've never been clear on 'raspberry fragrance" in a rose. Is it sharp and tangy, or sweet?

I have two of these, both of which have been very slow to grow, one in the garden and one in a pot. The one in the garden is on its second year, it had lots of black spot and just really wasn't going anywhere - Until I removed all the leaves and mulch from around the roots and gave it a whole lot of space and all of a sudden it shot up! Still a fairly small bush but it loves a good liquid feed and doesn't like mulch as much as the others. The one in the pot doesn't have as many flowers as the one in the garden but they are both pretty happy and healthy and the scent you just cannot go past - It's SO strong and sweet. Not a good cut flower, but they last ages on the bush and LOVE the hot QLD sun
