Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Hi Everyone
I have purchased 2 Abracadabra's. The plant I bought seems to be just Black (which Simon told me can happen). However the bare rooted one from Treloar is PINK! Can anyone help me out as to where I can buy a true 'Abracadabra'? This is driving me crazy .. Most of my plants from Treloar and even some from nurseries are all the wrong colours, and it's starting to get really frustrating I have waited months for my bare rooted ones to grow and they are all wrong.

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Treloar Roses has been pretty good for me... I would contact them and explain what is happening with photos. Post some photos here of your pink 'Abracadabra'. It might be just the same instability again. I've had it happen with roses like 'Burgundy Iceberg' which puts out flowers ranging from dark purple to pink to almost fully white.
Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Hi Simon, I'll have to post them after my 7 days, it won't let me post any photos until then
I googled it and there are some Abracadabra's that have come out pink,
so you must be right
I've not had any luck at all with about 5 rose bushes from both Treloar and nurseries. The Mr Lincoln I bought from Mt Tamborine was white
I've emailed Treloar - Thanks for all your help

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Happy New Year, hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Been reading about Abracadabra, how it's unstable. Mine has so far come out just red with perhaps one stripe. Does this mean that it has reverted fully back to red and is unlikey to stripe in the future? This is on it's third or fourth lot of flushes.
cheers

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Don't panic just yet. Abracadabra is a sport of a sport and as such can be very unstable .
I have one here that my MIL bought me as a pressie , it's grafted on a 3' stem as a patio standard [I think they are called] She seems to like these and I have a number now growing in large planters on the perimeter of the verandah because I can't quite work out were to put them in the garden.
But Abracadabra Here is a link to a pic that I posted on HMF
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] These were all flowers on the same bush !
I am still trying to find the link to the post which explained the sports and their original parentage .
cheers. Oz

Rosalie, I think if you are a member of HMF you go to lineage and from their you can get the info required, Regards David.

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Thanks, great pic too, I think a standard would have been nicer too, than my potted one. Also I checked this morning and I have a few that are more purplish and a few that are a lightish pink. Don't know whether it's unstability, heat, soil or little green men. But as written above apparently it does happen. Not sure if I really like it or not.

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
I'd like to see a pic of your rose HR .
Pink and purple shades are not colours that automatically come to mind when I think of Abracadabra .
If anything, when the red ages , it is more of a brick or brownish red .
You could try watering it with some Phostrogen solution or even just dosing it with straight potash to see if bucks the colour up , but I think I'd be querying it's identity too somehow.
Look forward to seeing a pic.
cheers. Rosalie

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
My Abracadabra was producing blooms exactly like they shouild be, then it died. LOL. Shows you can't win. I think after reading all the things it can choose to do, I won't be replacing it.

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Yes you can David , that's true . I did receive a nice message from a chap in the States giving me a rundown on the parentage but I can't find it.
Here is the rough of it for you to check out HR.
Abracadabra is a sport of
Hocus Pocus.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
which in turn is the sport of
Black Beauty
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
which was a sport from
Frisco
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and this is it's lineage .
Clear as mud ?

Sorry for taking so long for pics, I can't find the cable for the camera, so ended using my phone for photos. Left is the one I was getting with no stripes and here is a pink Abracadbra, it is lighter then in the photo. I think the hot weather may be playing havoc, but I may be wrong. Soil deficiency perhaps?

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Don't be disallusional with this bush.....it is not a tall bush...just over a mtr tall and I have won many a competition with that rose. Out of two dozen blooms on a bush, I might get one or two blooms that throw off

They are a small bloom, when you compare it to a hybrid tea...

Re: Abracadabra - Driving me crazy
Hi Happy Roses.
The top flower shows what I would call typical Abracadabra shape with the high centered flower and the petals roll to form a pointed shape .
The pinky coloured flower is the wrong shape altogether. I think you have been sold a ring-in.
