Grandmothers rose
Hi all
I'm just wondering whether any members might be able to help me identify a very old climbing rose that i have in my garden. My grandmother put the rose in apparently when the house was built in 1927 and it's still going strong. I've added a couple of pics of the rose for you,it reall is lovely when it blooms in spring [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Grandmothers rose
At first glance I though that it looked a lot like Marie Van Hotte or Mrs Duley Cross.
It may be one of these that has gone feral and due to the way its been cut back it has grown large and climbed.

But I think it is White Maman Cochet Clg

Re: Grandmothers rose
The first two photos do look remarkably like Mrs Dudley Cross, don't they? The third one is a different kettle of fish. My MDC is only a new plant and is only having its first big flower this year, so I haven't had a chance to see what the flower colour does in the hot weather. It certainly doesn't show any signs of climbing!
The friend's rose that I identified as Marie van Houtte, just with bigger and better flowers than mine, I now think is MDC - since the afore mentioned 'proper flowering!'

Re: Grandmothers rose
I think it was always a climber as it was where the old front gate of the house used to be and sprawled over it,thanks for posting the other photos, they look very close in colour

Re: Grandmothers rose
Actually I mucked the photos up. The first one is a Marie Van Houtte and he second is Mrs Dudley Cross.
The third is the White Maman Cochet Clg. The photo makes pink on the flowers look darker than in real life.

Re: Grandmothers rose
No wonder I can't decide whether this paddock rose is MVH or MDC - I thought it was the same rose in the first two photos.
