Lots of books. And a shelf dedicated to roses and rose growing. Trouble is I don't know which ones are worth the trouble / gems / etc.

The Graham Stuart Thomas is a classic. I have his Climbing Roses Old and New and am looking out for The Old Shrub Roses. I was in a second hand bookshop today and bought (by completely unrelated author) The Rose in History, Myth and Folklore.

The store isn't online - I took the pics as a way of recording what was there. Prices aren't cheap-cheap. Probably $7 and up.

I collect rose books and there are good ones there.
Anything by Susan Irvine or G.S.Thomas well worth having.
I love The Companion to Roses,
Classics there worth having include Rossi's 1930 Modern Roses,
Better roses by A.Thomas.
Practical book of outdoor rose gardens by Capt Thomas jnr
Shrub roses by Deane Ross.
No price too much for old roses books!

I have been trying to find Roses at the Cape of Good Hope by Gwen Fagan. The good news is that it will be reprinted so it is available for the World Rose Conference in South Africa in 2012.
I have about 50 rose books I hate to admit. So why waste money on the outrageous behaviour of the Hollywood dropkicks when you can go to rose paradise and get a real life of your own.
My top favourites are:
Pocket size of Botanica Roses
Tea Roses for Warmer Gardens
Naming the Rose by Roger Mann
Clair Martin's two books - 100 English Roses for the American Garden
100 Old Roses for the American Garden
Australian Roses by Peter Cox
Keith Money and Peter Beales - 4 books
Edwardian Roses, Early Victorian Roses, Late Victorian Roses, Georgian and Regency Roses
Australian Rose Directory - 3rd edition (regretfully from 1999) a good source of information
Joy of Roses by David Ruston and James Young
and I had better stop there!
For those Queenslanders - books written for California and the southern states are good sources of information for our growing conditions but of course with all northern hemisphere conditons the seasons need reversing and reverse north for south etc.
I have found a lot of books around the world on ebay.

Darn, I just posted and it didn't come up. Must be lost in cyber space or maybe I forgot to press send Stunned
Anyway Wendy I will try again.
In your top picture, the book 3rd from the left "The Book Of The Rose" by Michael Gibson is well worth buying. We have that book and I just love it. It has very few photos but loads and loads of info. I wouldn't be without my copy.

I hope you manage to get a copy at a good price. Very Happy

THE BOOK OF THE ROSE by Gibson, good condition $13.50
ROSES FOR SMALL GARDENS by Gibson, good condition $12
SHRUB ROSES OF TODAY by GS Thomas, good/reasonable condition $22
MODERN ROSES by Rossi (1930), fair condition $16.50
BEDSIDE BOOK OF OLD FASHIONED ROSES by Keith Money, good condition $12.50
SHRUB ROSES IN AUSTRALIA & NZ by Deane Ross, ex-library copy, $4.50 [purchased]
BETTER ROSES by A. Thomas, good condition $9 [purchased]
