Well done John, I have not done 'floral arrangments' for years. I am just wondering about your one. Is the wire for show or does it have something in the sculture of the arrangment ?
When is the show ? and if it is over, how did you go.
France Libre is a geat rose and I think it and some soft colours(cream, beige tones) would go great guns in an arrangments, David.

So lovely! I like Red Intuition and France Libre very much. What is the creamy coloured rose in your arrangement?

Thanks david.....the wire is all part of this arrangement......this is actually a practice arrangement to see how it goes and what I can do to improve it.I will need to make all six arrangements by the 20/10/11.
The show is over the weekend of the 22nd Oct 2011 and the weather here is not favouring my roses at the moment....so fingers cross

Yes, I like a nice large Red Intuition as well...they stick out like anything. The rose you ask is a florabunda called Fabulous

Re: Some of my roses 10/10/2011
John, 2 things
1. as a visual thing, the wire is over the rose, you might get a point taken off for that
2. If it is rain/heat umbrellas/tarps will help.

Re: Some of my roses 10/10/2011
Strong wire and poly pipe in arch form, one idea. The other would be to place star posts in the ground and tie off at each post and let hang down with ver lapped plastic, I have to go now John, i have just finished luch, will look this afternoon after work.

Re: Some of my roses 10/10/2011
Best of luck John for the upcoming show season. Your flowers look to be in lovely condition.
Mine are only just starting to flower and the bloody beetles are here already waiting for them.
Floral Art/ Arrangement used to be a bit of a speciality of my mum .
There are some basic rules to follow.
If I dig through the bookcase I will find her judges manuals but that will take time.
If your container is a "vase" or similar [ie higher than is wide] , then your tallest piece needs to be 1 & 1/2 times the height of your vase.
And the same applies to a "bowl" in reverse . The widest point needs to be 1 & 1/2 times the widest point of your bowl.
In the case of your topiary , it gets tricky as it needs to be both higher and wider to fit within the scale [unless rule applying to topiaries has been changed in the last 20 yrs ]
This need not be a flower but perhaps is your backing bit of greenery.
In your case you are using the lily buds.
While you have very cleverly stuck to the rule of using uneven numbers , you have an unbalanced effect because all your lily buds are at the top .
A simple redistribution of all the elements in your vase and you could have a championship ribbon in your sights.
Very interesting looking container by the way ; does it have any history behind it ?
I will have to try and draw a sketch tonight ; floral art lessons online are beyond me atm .
Also read your schedule closely ; to many folk miss "no accessories" [ and I have seen some truly beautiful floral arrangements disqualified as NAS] or "accessories allowed" [which would be the case for your wire accent in your arrangement]
Also remember that smallest blooms to the top. That applies both to your wire arrangement and your topiary.
If I can get the kids into bed early , I'll work on the sketches.
In the mean time look after those roses and we'll follow your show efforts and progress with interest and enthusiasm !
cheers. Oz

Re: Some of my roses 10/10/2011
Sketch as promised. Bit rough but I find arranging flowers easier than drawing them .
I'll have a poke around , I am sure there is a box of floral art books here going begging.
cheers. Rosalie
