My Next Project :)

I put two 'New Dawn' on either side of our main entrance path today and have just finished the plans to build the arch for them to grow over. Thought I'd start a log of progress. Might encourage me to actually get in and finish it quickly Christmas break project!

Pretty flash. The intersection of the crosses will probably be a bit of fun.

Yep... halving joint right in the middle with stainless elbows to reinforce them - ends are simple 45° cuts I can set up my drop saw to cut the rebates Whole thing is 3m high on the sides, 3.5m tall at the roof peak, roof truss is a 30°/60° triangle, 1m deep and 1.55m wide (inside dimension) made out of 90x90, 90x45, and 42x35 treated pine on stirrups set in cement footings.

Eventually I'd like to put a gate in between and a post-and-rail fence around the house block but for now the arch will stand solo.

I have found that if you attach these sort of things to stirrups they sway too much.

I usually put the post in the ground (its treated so it should last) but put the base in gravel so any water can soak away and not sit in the timber and then concrete above that. It's a lot more stable.

If you are going to do a actual timber joint in the middle of the cross you probably won't need a bracket. Just put a stanless steel screw or two to hold the joint together.
