Bonica
Howdy all
Has any one done any breeding with Bonica. I have just pollinated Bonica with Elara , Bamako, Hilda Sophia Lehmann and Solance Elara and Bamako worry me a bit as both were bred from a minature and I am concerned the flowers might come down in size, the other two should be ok ( I hope). The thing I like about Bonica is the prolific flowering and the abundance of bloom, oh and its health nothing seems to phase it in this area.

Re: Bonica
I pollinated mine for the first time this year with Brindabella Bouquet and Monsieur Tillier... will be interesting to see how they go.
Re: Bonica
The thing i like about it as well is , it sets hips very easily and they seem to mature at a pretty fast rate.

Re: Bonica
Warren, I assume "Solance" is one of yours, I reckon if it does come to germinate it, WILL be a winner.
As I have Camp David next to it, do think I could cross these 2

Re: Bonica
Reason I wanted to use Bonica, David, is that it is a sempervirens hyrbid with wichurana not very far back either. How healthy is Camp David? I would use the most healthy rose you have on it as Bonica spots quite badly for me here. I can send you some rugosa pollen to use if you like too.
Re: Bonica
Yep Solance is one of mine (IcebergX Baronne e De rothschild), It is very healthy gets nothing on it and flowers right up to winter. Camp David's parentage is missing so I cant go back to see whats looming in the depths of genetic material, plus it has only 2 offspring which really is'nt enough to valuate it strongest or weakest traites.
I tell you what though , looking at CD structure I would love cross it with Honor and Gemini, reckon it would be a marriage in heaven .
Now David how are the 240 Camp David's going that you bought??, a lot of pollen to play with

Re: Bonica
Warren, unless we have our wires crossed I did not buy 240 CD's, It could have been the other David(Dave C). Ok, Will Bonica cross with all sorts of roses or not.

Re: Bonica
OOPPS must be the other David, From what I can see from going on HMF its a fertile little devil, I have just fertilized 4 hips and is the first time I have used this cultivar, so from exprience I dont know, but from others it seems ok.
